43579, Another engine failure...advice needed
Posted by 2gNOS, Oct-21-01 10:08 PM
Well the subjecy days it all. The first time was when a friend was driving, And i lost a map sensor and a headgasket. Now that my top is re-built, I took it to LACR for some runs, but i ended up losing a 2 piston rings!! Anyways, Im going to order new rods, and a forged pistons.(12:1) And have the motor rebuilt on the bottom end. I was running A 50 shot NOS wet system, But i want to run a 150 shot when im done the motor. I have all the usual stuff done (header, intake, Port and polish etc.) But my fuel system is stock. What would you guys recommend I do to the fuel sytem to componssate for the Extra NOS?? Also, what pistons Seem to be working the best, and is there anything else i should do while its apart? Thanks in advance for all your replys.

This is my first post here, But i have been here everyday for months.. I am also a Stratuphere Moderator, and have been over there for the last 2 years, as long with an asog junkie.

I plan on running NOS with high compression also. Heres the thing. The 12:1 compression is already pushing the limit of 93 octane gas. I plan on only using NOS at the track or at least only with high octane race gas. This is gonna have to be something that is CAREFULLY tuned. You WILL need some kind of timing control to retard the timing to prevent detonation. I would say that for the fuel system, larger injectors would be a good idea, S-AFC, maybe even the fuel system from a turbo kit.
For the NOS system, I would go direct port with that large of a shot.

When you say the fuel system, do you mean the pump and all? Also, is a fuel pressure regulator going to help at all? I mean, id like to say im just going to use it at the track, but somehow i see that not happening if ya know what i mean :) I was thinking of setting it up dual stage, with a 50 shot off the line, and the 150 on a button in the cab. I do have 2 NOS bottles, and It wouldnt be that hard...

Sorry to hear about ur engine failure. first off, if you wanna run that big a shot, definitely upgrade the fuel pump, but you would need to do that for 12:1 compression also, along with big injectors, S-AFC, and probably the MSD DIS-2 ignition. also, you will definitely need the direct port setup. ill tell you from experience, get a progressive nitrous controller!!!! or run a dual stage for sure, cause traction will be non existent. goodluck with it though, a 100-something shot is REAL fun! be ready to replace the clutch and tranny soon though, cause i had to. Tuning will be critical to your setup, noone that i know of has done it before(run high compression and Nitrous on our engines) so goodluck with it and keep us updated.
