4317, about BOV.......???
Posted by loeric18_2000, Apr-26-01 04:23 PM
Today,my friend told me that: ----""

I was trying to order one BOV today, but the VW-Audi expert
won't sell that to me since they don't carry any! I asked him
why? He told me that the BOV would only make the car slower
but sound a bit better, they don't carry stuffs that make car
slowr and actually useless, he recommend to put a cone filter
instead and said the cone filter would make some noise similar
to BOV, too, but without hurting the performance! ""----

and , also I heard some guys said that the BOV, which is very loud, release the pressure to atmosphere that will cause the computer measure the A/F ratio not correct because the pressure doesn't go back to intake????

Are they true???? If they are, why still so many people got a BOV????

It only messes up the A/F whatever they said if the air sensor is before the BOV, and you are dumping to the atmosphere. our air sensor is right on the throttle body, so there is no need to worry about it. I would never get a turbo system without a BOV. the guy is a moron.

Oh...I see..:)
By the way, i am thinking about "Apex-i Twin Chamber Blow Off Valve" and "HKS Super Sequential Blow Off Valve " for my turbo..
I prefer to buy Apex-i one,coz the sound can be adjusted ...but
others else say HKS SSQV is also good.......which BOV's sound is better? And does HKS SSQV sound like two sequential chirp ? THX....

OK please do us a favor and go kick whoever told you that BOVs make the car slower A$$.

BOV is there to prevent your turbo from blowing up very very very fast. an easy way to think of how the BOV saves turbos is. lets say you are boosting like 5psi on the highway and all of the sudden, some dumb A$$ shows up in front of you, so you had to let go of the gas pedal, which means your butterfly in the TB is now totally shut, yet the turbo was still pushing air toward your TB just to find out that the butterfly is totally closed. so what happens next, that air hits the closed butterfly and travels back the opposite direction toward your turbo and causes the turbo wheel to spin the other way around. that puts a lot of stress on the turbo and kills it in a heart beat.

BOV messing with the A/F is kindda true, but if the guy you talked to knew that our cars come with MAP sensor and not MAF he would not have said that I guess (that's if he even knew the difference between them)

only cars with MAF sensor suffer from venting the BOV to the atmosphere since their sensor that counts the amount of air getting to the engine is mounted b4 the TB, which means you will be basically getting red of a little amount of air that was already counted by the MAF sensor (will only cause the car to run a bit rich for less than split of a second right after letting go of the gas pedal) this causes some MAF equipped cars to stall after hard acceleration then suddenly letting go of the cas.
Luckily our cars are equipped with Map sensor which is very very venting the BOV to atmosphere friendly since it only determines the A/F ratio after the air makes its way pass the TB and into the intake manifold.

My final word, please go ahead and get whatever BOV you like and vent it to the atmosphere ah did I say you will love the BOV sound if it's vented to the atmosphere :)

good luck

Thanks for you guys' respond, you guys are so sweet :)
and finally, I have ordered the HKS QQSV with my Super 16G turbo kit directly from HRC. Here is the link with the HKS SSQV sound files, check it out if you guys are interested in the sound.
