43151, NOS Fogger System? Posted by mjbd, Dec-16-01 08:45 AM
Thinkin about running NOS if I get the 99 Eclipse GS I have been looking at, odds are good. Anyway, I am thinking NOS over Turbo because I dont really need to go fast all the time, just at the tracks and when a race is provoked. I am thinkin fogger system, because it allows alot of room to upgrade, but not sure if this is the system for me. What do you guys think?

Anyone?

A single fogger would be a nice first timer set up. Turbo is easier to drive cause there is no throttle modulation with nitrous. its and on and off switch. Why not nitrous? go for it.

I agree with Stan. BTW- you'll need a wet nitrous kit if you get the 99. It's kit #5208, about $500 new. Get a bottle heater and pressure gauge, too!

Change that, it will probably be a 2002 Eclipse. Anywase, Turbo cost to much up front, I will never be able to save that much, and dont need to go fast all the time, so NOS looks the most appealing to me. I know the standared wet kits will add about 40-75hp, is that right? Are the kits limited to that? I know the Fogger system is cappable of up to 250hp. If you are running 50 shots of NOS, what kind of times are you running. 75 shots? 100 shots? How long to install?

<<If you are running 50 shots of NOS, what kind of times are you running.
i ran a 16.3 na, and a 15.1 w/ a 50 shot.. i never got a full run w/ a 75, but its on there right now and i can tell you it's a lot faster than the 50. i'd say about a second in the 1/4. w/ the 75 i can roast my tires in the middle of second gear.

I want to be able to keep up with Stangs and Z28's. As long as I can burn the V6 stangs, I will be happy, but once thats done, gotta look for the bigger fish to fry. I wonder how much NOS I can run? I would guess 75 for the stock, and maybe 125 if I had forged pistons and rods. Anything else I should know?

Upgrade fuel and ignition systems also.

We can handle a 75 shot on a stock engine. With PROPER tuning you can increase fuel and retard timing with an ignition system and run a higher shot. If you really want to run a higher shot, spend $1099 on a howell bottom end kit with a 10.5:1 compression and set up a direct port system and run a 100-120 shot. Port and polish the manifold for better flow and make sure you have a header and exhaust if you are running that high of a shot. You may even want to get 330cc injectors just to be safe on 100+ shots.

I thought lower compression engines were better for boost? Anywase, I wouldnt do everything at once, it will be peiced together. NOS will be one of the first things I will buy though. Here is what I would like to do, NOS system(not sure which one), headers, higher flowing exhaust, cold air intake, lightened fly wheel, and a high perfomance clutch if needed. What NOS kit would I want? I know the standard kits are rated from 40-60(maybe 75), and the fogger system is rated from 80-250. With the standard kit, are you limited to 60HP, or can you move up from there?

>I thought lower compression engines were better for boost?
They are if you want to crank up the boost. We are talking about nitrous though, not boost. >NOS will be one of the first things I will buy >though. Here is what I would like to do, NOS system(not >sure which one), headers, higher flowing exhaust, cold air >intake, lightened fly wheel, and a high perfomance clutch if >needed.
Sounds good so far. Might want to include an ignition system.

You are limited to what jet size you put in. Want to run a 50 shot, stick in the 50 shot jets, want 100 shot? Stick in the 100 shot jets.

Thanks Fast420, thats what I was looking to find out. I fogot to mention that I might go with one of Jacobs Electronics inginition systems.

One other thing would be to get a fuel pump and do the fuel pump rewire. You may want to get a Walbro 255 HP intank on an external like some of the turbo kits have if you want to REALLY use nitrous }> like I was going to! I was going to spray 100 shot with race gas on HIGH compression at the track only. Like around 12:1 compression. I know it can be done with our engine with enough FUEL and FUEL and retarded ignition, and fuel. To do this without blowing up, of course, it would have to be tuned correctly on the dyno but I think this setup could get the car in to the 12's and with the right amount of weight reduction, 11's !!! Take that in for a second, running as fast as the STAGE 5's with just nitrous!!! }>
If you have any other questions, just ask! :)

My engine would be a differant though. I think the 2002 GS has a perfected 2G SpyderNT motor. 2.4 Mitsu motor, but should get similar results. I love NOS, its so cool. My only real concern is cost of refilling the bottle. Thats another downfall to NOS, refilling the bottle. I think I will get the bigger one, so I wont have to refill as often. I have a feeling when I first get the kit, I will be boost happy, and be refilling quite often, but after that, it will be mainly for track use, and for those who make a challenge.

The same things apply to turbo apply to nitrous is regards to compression. Increasing compression reduces the amount of nitrous you can run and/or increases the amount of timing that must be retarded. The only reason nitrous can deliver the equivalent power as a turbo without lowering compresion is because it lowers intake temps 65deg, at best an intercooler can cool to ambient temps. That doesn't mean you can run high compression and unlimited nitrous shots. 10.5 and anything over 80hp is pushing it without any real timing tuning.

Ok, another question, if you can move up in HP by using different jets, why would anyone use the Fogger system? The standard kit is for 40-60 according to the NOS site, but can move up using different jets, but the Fogger System is rated from 80-225, which one would I want? Is the fogger system hard to install? I am want to make sure I get the right kit whent the time comes.
