Hey now KLIPZ, take it easy! :-) maybe he wanted some rims too(he said he bought some)or he might have been having a lot of trouble outta his set-up(dont kill me turbo guys, ive just heard a lot of people with troubles) soon i will be one with the darkside. this summer calls for 1) new job selling cars at a new Toyota dealer 2) save every single penny i make 3) build engine and get a stage 1 turbo...along with the Nitrous! then i will be able to go off to school happily! :-)

well the reason is the up keep on the turbo was getting expensive,so is 92 oct. gas, i really liked the turbo. it was fun but why not get the same times, and have alot less maintainance not to mention it cost 500 as opposed to 3500.trust me it took me a while but you soon realize that you can go alot faster for the same or less money.this one dude in this board runs a 14.6 with a 60 shot and cai and a cat back thats pretty much it so he spent a little more then a grand to do what i did for 3500. plus there is a dude with a silver car with built internals and runs 15psi and he runs a 13.9. think about it man thats like better then 4k he spent on his ride .4k on our rides should see 12sec quarters. its all really in what floats your boat.my boat floats to the tune of speed.

You still have to use high octane gas with nitrous

43090, RE: I JUST GOT NOS!!!!!!! Posted by 2GXTASY, Apr-24-01 01:15 AM
But the cool thing is you don't have to run the high octane all the time. Only when you think you might use it.

you say turbo was costing you lots of $? well think how much will cost you after you have worn out all your internal parts for using nos. In the other hand, if you would of kept your turbo and used the right stuff for it, you don't have to worry about damage. Now, you could of kept the turbo and saved some money and go turbo-nos, don't you think so?

Man it would suck having to lose a race or back out against a car that you could normally destroy with the NOS if you weren't running 92 octane. plus, having to go completely through 16 gallons of 87 octane just to fill up on some 92 is kinda dumb if you ask me... nothing against NOS users at all...much respect to anyone who is faster than stock.
Though I just got back from a club DSM meeting, and all the guys there were all over my turbo car and completely ignored the RS driver who just got a 60 shot of Nitrous Express. Go figure..

Of course they were all over your car. A turbo will always be more glamerous to wrench heads. A turbo takes more time, commitment, and money. But NOS is very cool. Basically power in a bottle which can be released at will. If thats not cool then what is? :)
I love turbos, want one, and for see myself owning one down the road. But right now I think NOS is gonna be my power pick-me-up until I decide to dedicate my money, time, and emotions to a turbo. But hey if I had a turbo I would probably have the stupid smile plastered all over my face too. ;-)

LAST EDITED ON 28-Apr-01 AT 00:44 AM (PST)The funny thing is we have the oposite. Everyone flocks to the N/T with nitrous and ignores the turbo car. People just can't believe that it only takes that little bit to run decent times. Guess there just isn't a big enough turbo on it :( lol :P
Opps forgot to answer the original question. We ran 14.8's with the 50 shot jets, turbo FWD rear section, CAI, urithane motor mounts. We should be getting better than a 14.6 now but can't find traction even with drag radials. Added since have been 60 shot jets, A/FX underdrive pulley, power steering and AC delete (still on the car just no belt, not done on purpose :) ) , F+R strut bars, F+R lower tie bars, Apexi World Sport catback.

Assuming I paid for my Turbo, which I really didn't, I exchanged some work for it, It would pay for itself in about 2 years worth of Nitrous refills. (Figuring 1 fill per 2 weeks at $40 for a 10Lbs fill) I like it cause it will always be there...of course NOS has some obvious advantages as well, namely less maintenence. Well, hell they're both cool. :7

nitrous is 2.25 / lb. around here and the bottles last long, if they don't, then neither will your motor :)

Im curious as to why everyone thinks NOS is such a engine destroyer? If its done properly including good engine monitoring you wont damage your motor.... basically the same principals as a turbo kit right? Monitoring and proper install on either route will result in performance and longevity correct?
Too many mods to list. Visit www.asog.net/sw to see mine.

LAST EDITED ON 17-Jun-01 AT 10:31 PM (PST)Correct! It seems as though it is getting to be a "turbo vs. nitrous" thing going on here. Either are just as likely to damage your engine if not enough fuel or installed/used incorrectly. C'mon you guys, I think by now you would be sick of arguing just because of the crap from turbo people, why argue amongst yourselves SHEESH! Anyway, it has been established already, if you have the upfront money for a turbo kit and install, you might as well get one, if you don't, a nitrous kit is a viable alternative. (aside from a venom 400 being so expensive)
Fast is fast, I could care less how I got there...............

I would never sell a turbo system to replace it with NOS. It hurts me just to hear it... maby i'm a but too much of a wrench head... and then theres the fact that I'm running a stage 5 HRC setup and then some... so I am probably a smidge happier than you, oh yeah and I use a 100 shot of NOS for spool up. -- Brad 98 GS(well it was a long long time ago...)

43103, RE: I JUST GOT NOS!!!!!!! Posted by klipzracer, Jul-06-01 01:06 AM
i think it's cause nitrous is instant power whereas turbo sools up so it's less violent on the engine that make turbo safer but as avengeance noted it's still the same factors.

NOS is greeat for the price. But I don't know if it will make your car as fast as your turbo. I had an 80 shot on my car for about 6 months. And it made a great difference. but I would still loose to gs-t's and gsx's at about half way thru 3rd gear. (side note) (my friends civic has beaten a few gst's, and since I got my kit, I beat him by about 5 cars) I'd have to say NOS will not give you more power thank the turbo in top end. And if there's anyone near fresno,ca with a NOS'ed gs or rs, I'd like to run ya, to see what the difference is :-)

ok, i have a 75 shot nx system on my car riight now which, at this very moment, i am taking off. it was awesome while i had it, but for me it was getting too expensive for just nitro. 75 was a lot and i couldn't hit it in first gear b/c of no traction and in second it wasn't very good either, so car's would still beat me unless we were already up to speed, top 0f 2nd or 3rd gear or so. either way, at 33$ a bottle here in north florida, it was getting expensive, and i CONSTANTLY found myself losing races b/c of an empty bottle. i never had n2o on tap when i needed it. either that or my bottle was closed at the wrong time or whatever (no remote opener). so the time came and i have the money now so i'm going for boost. not to say that one is better than the other, n2o is the funnest thing ever, you just flip and sqitch and ROAST the tires in the middle of 2'd gear, you can't beat that. and the purge kit, mmmm, scare people poop-less.
either way, i'm going the opposite way, i sold my rims and sold my nitro kit (1200$ and 400$ respectively) and am buying a custom intercooled turbo setup. either way anyone looks at it, IT'S YOUR CAR, DO WHAT YOU WANT TO IT. IT'S HOW YOU SEE IT THAT MATTERS. end of story.
