I want to purchase a turbo by the end of this month, and was woundering which turbo was faster on the street? The HRC seems to have a HP advantage but does the star give quicker perfomance.
Also does anyone know how much the star stage II upgrade kit is? I am having a tough time deciding thanks for the help.

Neither one is decidedly "better."

The way i look at it (some might not agree with it, but that's not my problem):

1. If you're a do-it-yourself kinda guy, fairly knoledgable about cars and turbosystems and don't mind having -zero- manufacturer support, then go for the Star kit. Once you get it, you're pretty much on your own. (Except for us :-) )

2. If you have no idea how a turbosystem works and can't change your own oil or sparkplugs, much less an exhaust manifold gasket or intercooler, go HRC. They have excellent support, and Bill is willing to help you with ANYTHING you have a problem with. He'll bend over backwards to make sure his customers are happy and have no problems with his product. His support team is unrivaled in the automotive turbosystem industry.

Now, just in case anyone is wondering, i don't think that the HRC kit is for automotively challenged people, nor do i think that the Star kit is for the guy who knows his was around a crecent wrench. Simply put, i feel that the HRC kit is a get-it-and-forget-it system that doesn't require the need or want to constantly tinker or the attention that a Star kit needs. As for quality, HRC gets that. Star will sometimes have problems with fitament. Star also doesn't include quite everything you'll need for the install, namely vacuum lines and turbo related gaskets. Really, it's all about what you're interested in. I love being under the hood of my car, even if it is to replace that damn wastegate bolt that i keep blowing out, or to make sure that my lines aren't leaking oil, or whatever it is that i'm doing when you see me that way. Star kit was perfect for me, and i'm happy with it.

It's really all about what you're after. As far as what's faster, spools quicker, etc.. That's something i'll let someone else answer.

Here's what i think. The HRC system would be a lot smoother on the street. That 16g will spool up rather quickly especially on a high compresion motor. In 1/4 mile terms Im pretty sure both kits are running about the same ET's however the STAR kit would have the higher mph! (more topend power).. I like how the HRC kit is pretty flawless in its design, however I tend to lean toward the star kit in terms of aesthetics. Additionally the STAR kit in the hands of a knowledgeable tuner will have noticeable HP advantage over HRC's. The thing that appeals to me the most about STAR is the 2.5" complete downpipe, and the 500hp capable turbo!! So essentially you can purchase the Stage2 star, upgrade your internals and tune your ride and you can be right on HRC's back!!

BTW: I have neither kit but i've worked on them both. I have a custom kit which i put together.
