4266, My wastegate isn't shutting all the way!!!!!
Posted by 99GSBBTurbo, Apr-24-01 07:34 PM
Does any one's wastegate sometimes stay open a little? Cause the last couple of times I've driven my car hard, the wastegate stays open just a little bit, but since I don't have it welded into my downpipe ( YET ), it makes that horrable sound... woabl woabl woabl woabl...and it bugs the crap out of me!!! I've tried to tighten the screw down, and I don't wanna close it all the way, but that doesn't help? Any suggestions????

And I also know that it's not helping me get up to boost any quicker either!!!!!! DAMN.

Thats not possible, unless your wastegate is busted.
The reason the wastegate cannot remain open during idle
is because there is no boost pressure present to open
the solenoid. If you have exhaust coming out of your
dumptube at idle then your wastegate has some serious
issues, otherwise it could be a flange leak (between manifold and wastegate)... check it out !!

hope that helps !

I had the same problem.. but only after I busted a few pistons and had blow-by. I got oil in the exhaust when I plugged up the crankcase breather. It was doing it again shortly after the rebuil but then I changed the vacuum line that goes from the boost controller to the wastegate and ran it hard as hell to burn out any leftover carbon and oil deposits and it turned out fine thereafter. I don't really like the Deltagate. I want to change it out to a TIAL but that shit costs too much.

Whats " Blow By "?? And I don't think I've blown any pistons or anything like that, my car runs fine. And my breather isn't pluged up. It only did it a couple of times after I drove it hard. And I don't have any leaks cause While it was doing it, I tightened down the screw and it closed, then I loosed it, and it stayed closed.

And my breather is spitting out some oil. Not a bunch, just some. My oil hasn't gone down or anything, but is it normal for it to do that??? I was told to get a catch can. Should I do this and get rid of my breather???

Thanks for all your help!!!!!

You just described the effects of blow by whihc is normal for all cars to have, some more than others, and being under pressure making it worse. Essentially the compression chamber is not 100% totally sealed, ie the rings let oil get by and out through the crankcase and out through your filter in your setup. Get the catch can, less messy.

While on the subject of Blow by... Does this still occur
on our cars when the internals are built? (rods, pistons, rings)
