4263, Painting intercooler piping. Posted by E_ME_2, Apr-24-01 05:12 PM
I found some spray paint stuff at the local parts store. It says its for the engine and can handle up to 1200 degree heat?? would this be ok for spray painting my intercooler piping ?
Thanks

Sounds cool, but remember...the turbo gets REALLY hot...1300 degree's hot, so I'm sure that the IC piping from the turbo to the IC is close to that, but It's good to use after that I'm sure:-) I'd look for another paint, something that will handle like 14-1500, so you won't have rainbow IC piping:-) Just a suggestion.
I GOT 3rd AT MY FIRST SHOW!!!:-)

It should be fine.
Your intercooler pipes will NEVER reach 1200degrees.. if they do, the last thng you will be worrying about is the paint :-)
Remember, they are connected with silicon and rubber hoses and that insulates most heat. In fact, in the middle of summer after a 2hr drive my "hot air" intercooler pipes are hot to the touch, but definitely not 1200degrees, otherwose my hand would have stuck to it permanently! (yuck!)
