42188, We need 2GNT n2o gurus Posted by 99Eclipse, Mar-15-02 10:58 AM
Seeing how no one on the board is running any kind of larger nitrous system im researching into running gobs of n2o with our 420a's I have some people over at neons.org helping me out as no one really knows exactly what I will need to run the setup I want, another reason is to share my knowledge with the rest of you and start to make this forum more balanced so when someone asks a question like "I want to make a buttload of power in my 420a how?" we can say more than just turbo or stage 1,2,3, or hrc/star some of us can suggest n2o like NX, NOS, Venom, wet/dry, single shot, direct port, etc. I am not the brightest on the board nor do I consider myself near the top such as Dino, etc.(you know who you are) This just seems to be our weakest link on our board when it comes to performance in our cars and I just simply want to improve it
BTW, The dual-stage direct port setup that I planned on going with is gonna run me around $2,000.00 just for the kit.

I think that the main reason for the lack of n2o gurus is that it is still more economical to go with a turbo. For the 2000 that it takes for that kit, you can almost have a stage 1, 5 psi, around 220 hp. The dual stage set up for the n2o will suck ALOT of n2o, and bottle refilling will get very pricey after a while. I think in the LONG RUN, n2o will cost more money than a turbo, but I do think seeing a fast, multi-stage n2o setup will be very intriguing. Most of us on this board are very money conscience, and on tight budgets. We all want the most power for the best price. For weeking racers, nitrous is the way to go to beat the slight-to -moderatley powered cars out there. I am also thinking of going n2o, but only until i can get funds for the turbo...I'd too like to see what can be done with the squeezin :)

>For weeking >racers, nitrous is the way to go to beat the slight-to >-moderatley powered cars out there.
No n2o can be the way to go no matter what you want to take out there for ex. we "could" run a single direct port 200+ HP shot and use a system like a F.R.E.D. to deliver the nitrous smoothly resulting in insane ETs and if your just a daily driver/weekend racer like me this looks like a good rout to take.

Yeah, that's kind of what i was taking about, i too, am considering this option..But damn, 200+ shot is ALOT of nitrous! I think with that kind of power, i would be squeezin all the time! The temptation is just too great :) Plus, with that shot, ther are MANY extras that will be needed, most expensive, the engine internals. With that large of shot, the bottle will need to be filled only after several 1/4 mi passes, right?? I'm not the smartest when it comes to nitrous, but i know that with that kind of shot, it don't last long. To me, that's the biggest downfall of n2o. I sure would hate to run out during an important race :( But i still think it would be cool to see an all out n2o clipse/talon. I really like to see what kind of times it can do..How much is it to fill a bottle anyway? 30 bucks or around there, right??

It sure is :)

That depends on several things you can always have a bigger bottle like a 15 lb'er instead of a 10 lb. or run 2 10 lb. bottles. From what i've read upon so far it looks like alot less of a hassle and less maintence required rather than all the problems that come with the Stage 3 and above turbo kits and also you can control a turbo only by a boost controler. With nitrous you can take off from the line and preprogram your n2o setup so you can lock up with the pavement instantly and not burn out, then as each second goes by more nitrous will be dumped and you will be scorchin down the track like a freight train. You can control and set your n2o system up to the very HP you want it and its simple to (you can't fine tune a turbo this well), the most expensive extras would be the pistons and rods all of the other componets are relatively cheap.
>I'm not the smartest when it >comes to nitrous, but i know that with that kind of shot, it >don't last long. To me, that's the biggest downfall of n2o. >I sure would hate to run out during an important race :(
Just keep tabs on your bottle(s) and always have a last shot in there for when you think you will really need it. >But i still think it would be cool to see an all out n2o >clipse/talon.
Thats a 1 of the reasons why I am going all n2o. :P
>How much is it to fill a bottle anyway? 30 bucks or >around there, right??
Sounds about rite to me give or take a few dollars and it being a 10 lb. bottle.
As far as times the guys at neons.org strongly beleive I can run low 12s high 11s with the n2o setup in which I am going with so ill find out.

Damn bro! I'd say go for it man. If you got the cash to do it, then we can name you the first clipse in the 11's/12's with only nitrous. Now that would be a very good feeling of acomplishment :) Oh yeah, if i do decide to get some n2o on my ride, where do you get the bottles filled at? Most performance shops? Those kind of places are few and far between around here, unless i can get it at a cylinder gas filling place or somehing(one very close to me). Also, how long do you think a 50-75 shot would last on a 10 lb bottle(assume 1/4 passes)?

>where do you get the bottles filled at?
Check performance shops in your area or try asking around, you'll find a place.

i dont know about n2o being more expensive in the long run, i would think that a complete turbo with all the "nessesary" gadgets and gauges and all that kind of stuff would be way more in the red than a good high hp n20 setup. Keep in mind im certainly not an expert on either by any means but in my ROUGH guesstimations:
turbo w/ FMIC = 2500.00ish? bottom end = 1500.00ish? fuel system upgrades = 600.00ish? timers, gadgets, gauges = 1000.00ish?(or more)
thats 5600.00ish for a good setup that wears on the motor at all times. where as n2o, regardless of size is only there when you want it to be, otherwise all motor. if you take 140hp stock + cams(20-25hp)+ UPD(7-10hp)+ CAI(5ish hp), thats roughly 170hp w/o n2o. add a basic 50 shot and you got 230ish. all that for roughly 1000.00(oh yea, and exhaust add another 500.00) so roughly 1500.00! I realize i may be being a tad optimistic with my hp estimates, but there taken from all the post i have read on here in the past.

Okay, 50 shot will last a 10 lb bottle about 10 runs.
Hook up your progressive controlled 200 shot and you are going to get about 3 - 4 runs on a 10 lb bottle. With turbo, you can race 20+ people in one night if you want to and not run out of boost, try to do that with nitrous.
There have been a few guys that have run nitrous for a while and a lot of them ended up going turbo.
I would say go for it bro, push the limits, someone needs to, but if I were able to make a BUNCH of power like that, I would want it all the time.

Well thats another thing ill only need it on the weekends and im gonna go with 2 10 lb. bottles and don't even say something about the F&F because im gonna be a sleeper aside from some rims and tint ill look stock, and maybe the exhaust will give it away but these muscle heads out here see that on hondas all the time and know nothing really about are i4's aside from some hollywood crap.

Has anyone ever sprayed more than 75 shot on this board?
|
42199, RE: We need 2GNT n2o gurus Posted by Nitrous_RS1997, Mar-17-02 02:32 PM
yeah... i sprayed a 125-shot direct port before i went turbo. i also believe there is a guy running an 80-shot DP on stock internals, and he has been doing it for a while. Nitrous is a great thing, no doubt. but sooner or later, you WILL get caught with the bottle empty/closed and either get your butt kicked or have to back out. that happened to me, and that was all she wrote. :-) but dont listen to these people saying this is cheaper, or that is cheaper. for 50-75HP, nitrous IS cheaper. if you wanna go above that, it will pretty much even out. to run a 200-shot, you will have to do a LOOOOT of expensive mods to EVERYTHING in the engine, along with retarding the hell out of the timing. i can say it from firsthand experience, nitrous is great for the money and initial 80 or so horses. after that you WILL long for more, and you WILL want that power all the time, no matter how much you say you wont...believe me, cause i said the same thing.. :-) now look at me.

thats why I have a reserve bottle hooked up and a bottle opener for...hehe
Dam 99!!! keep on going with the n20 stuff bro...

200 shot with what kind of internals.
If you are going to run below 10.1:1 than have fun driving around while not spraying :)

42202, RE: We need 2GNT n2o gurus Posted by babybeclipse, Mar-18-02 07:23 AM
I hope you know that the stock 420A motor is 9.6 compression ratio.

42203, RE: We need 2GNT n2o gurus Posted by cucumber, Mar-18-02 11:54 AM
I want to be a n2o guru!!! I run a 75 shot and nobody asks me any questions :)

42204, RE: We need 2GNT n2o gurus Posted by babybeclipse, Mar-18-02 12:05 PM
Cucumber, How did you tap the fogger to the intake? Drill or tap it in?
a question just 4 U!
|
42205, RE: We need 2GNT n2o gurus Posted by cucumber, Mar-19-02 05:36 AM

Just drilled it in :)

>I hope you know that the stock 420A motor is 9.6 compression >ratio.
Ok well he can run 200 shot on stock internals than.
I doubt hes going to run a 200 shot on 10.5 am I right?
So what other choices does that leave him 8.5-8.8?
And yes I do know our stcok compression. I was simply saying hes not going to be running the stock 9.6 and 200 is too much for 10.5 so have fun driving around with the 8.8. I am not sure that anything else is offered.

42207, RE: We need 2GNT n2o gurus Posted by 99Eclipse, Mar-18-02 10:14 PM
No, ill have fun with 10.5 :P and all of it has just arrived at the shop today my friend just gave me the call.
Instead of 200 im gonna use this kit to the fullest try a 300 shot on 10.5 and mad tuneing. 1st im gonna run the 100 then jump rite into the 200 and adventually try the 300. If things go boom then I rebuild and start boostin.
|
42208, RE: We need 2GNT n2o gurus Posted by 99Eclipse, Mar-18-02 10:16 PM
Wether things go boom or not im still gonna be rebuildin and then boostin but not until I achieve my goals with nitrous.
