42019, When to Engage NOS??? Posted by Chowmane99, Apr-01-02 05:10 AM
Hey, I have a simple question. If I get NOS (Say 50 - 75 shot) when do you engage it. I know you should never do it below 3000 rpm's but at what gear 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 3ct... I know it only engages at WOT. But lets say i'm in third gear at 4000 rpm and I turn the NOS Switch on. When I hit the GAS PEDAL to the FLOOR (WOT)and get the boost. Does the RPM's go up because if it does...as soon as it hit's 6000 rpm's I have to let go off the gas and shift which shuts off the NOS as soon as I let off the GAS. This beats the purpose because the NOS is shut off. I assume when you hit the NOS the boost kicks in but the RPM stays the same. Correct.
Thanks, Mike 98 Eclipse Spyder GS

umm, hehe, your name is pimp...
that said, why u shiftin at 6k? auto?? if so, sorry to hear that... whenever u have your foot on the throttle, especially at WOT, your rpms will be rising, if they are not, your car isnt on (hehe)..or sumthin is terribly wrong...
i dunno much about nitrous, but is will definately make your rpms get up there faster...

WTF. You u calling a Pimp. That's Pimp Daddy to u. Hahaha. LOL No seriously. I have a 5-speed 1998 Eclipse Spyder GS and with the Spyder the engine sputters after you hit 6000 rpm's. So if I don't shift at 6000 rpms I'm loosing Power. I'm thinking If I shift at 4000 rpms and hit the NOS. It'll hit 6000 rpms in about 2 seconds then I have to let off the gas and shift which in turns cut off the NOS.
Now can some one with NOS answer this question. I know it's probably something simple. But if u don't know NOS. Don't bother answering and wasting Time and Resourses.
Thanks,

I could give you a ten page explanaition of how this stuff works but I will keep it short. Yes, when you hit the WOT switch, the revs will climb mutch quicker and you will have to shift but you will floor it again as soon as you shift and it will be back on. It is just like driving a car as fast as you can without it only it is even faster. And you want to spray in second. In first, you will just waste your tires and probably bounce off the rev limiter and that is BAD on the spray. if it mis fires then you have a pool and it will blow a head gasket or lean out a shatter a piston and that gets really ugly. Just remember the rules, always above 3k, never for more than 15 seconds straight, shift just under redline so you don't have a chance at misfiring, and pull out 2 degrees of timing for every 50 HP you spray. That will prevent detonation and you also might want to run an octane booster as well when you are going to do it just to be on the safe side. If you do a search on the net, you will come up with gobs of info on it and you can learn everything you need to know right down to the fusion of the nitrogen atoms with the o2 atom and how they break down at 1500 degrees in the combustion chamber and the O2 expands creating more cyl pressure and thus making HP. But if you do it right, you will never break anything. I have sprayed everything from a 125 shot wet on a Probe four banger with the fogger kit, one nozzle to each cyl to a 200 shot on my 89 mustang that feels like you just got kicked squarly in the ass when you hit it. N2O is great but you have to learn how it works to use otherwise it will be the most expensive mod you ever did. If you need more info man, E mail me.

Hey,
Thanks for all the info. That's what I thought. So when you hit the Gas again the NOS kicks in again. Makes sense.
