4187, Possibly buying a GSX..What do you think?
Posted by Justin, Apr-23-01 03:26 PM
Yes guys, im sick of putting around in my RS..and Im trading it in for a GSX preferrably a 95..I dont want crankwalk problems, and from what I understand, 96-99 has it..My question is:

Is there a web page with a FAQ reguarding parts/upgrades for a GSX, kinda like this page? (i know about DSMtalk)

Is there anything I should know, or watch out for when looking for one?

What should my first mods be to make this thing move? BOV? Exhaust? FMIC?

Anything else?

How much power can I get on stock internals?
How much boost can I get from a stock turbo?
What do I need to upgrade when upgrading a Turbo (possibly a 14b)?

Any help will be appreciated guys!

ignorant mode on: this is a 2gnt board, if you want to know about the GSX, ask the dudes over at www.dsm.org ... they know their shit way better than we do.

ignorant mode off: cool, GSXs are cool cars. personally, even a 95 i would be worried about getting crankwalk, but i do believe they get it less than the newer ones do for some reason. my buddy has a 95 GST, 80000 miles and no crankwalk still, so you might luck out with one. I would love to have AWD, and thats why i would love to get one. now if you said you were buying a GST, i might want to slap you. They personally have no traction i think, and are not worth modding, since you can do the same with an RS or GS, and possibly go faster with the same amount of money. It all depends on the initial cost of the car, and how mechanically inclined you are. If you ain't real mechanically inclined, then turboing a 420A could get expensive.

I still think a 1g GSX would be the shit. fast car from the start, pretty reliable, TRE makes a bulletproof tranny for em, cheap initial investment, and proven ways to go fast. although, they are boring as hell to look at...

anyway, i dont know why i add to this topic, it has been covered so many times on this board as well as other, and i am sure that it will be a never ending battle. just personally, do what you feel like doing, and don't give a shit what other people tell you, most of em are talking out of their ass anyway, including me probably..

but for real, ask the 4g63 guys what to get, they could help you out a lot better.

I would be a pioneer if i was in your position of car shopping. I would use your rs as a huge downpayment for one of those new WRX Subarus. (They cost more than double your gsx but you wont have to worry about the racer guy before you that beet the hell out of his car) No one has them because they are new. Out of the box they run a 14.6 and they are VERY de-tuned. They have 3 cats. for gods sake! I think sticker price is around 25k give or take. Proly start out with some exhaust, intake and a boost controller/boost guage and your in the (13's). 4g63 guys buy that stuff - run a tad more boost and they get muy bueno results as well.

good luck

Would love to do that but I cant for 2 reasons:

1. They look like my ass
2. Too much money for a 19yr. old
