Sup guys.. new guy in the forum.. and new to being an eclipse owner.. and im in a major crisis. Check it out .. i got a 1996 GS, may i say its gorgeous.. besides the fact that it looks great its new.. well 10k miles on it.. this thing has been preserved since the day it was bought .. now its time for me to give it life... this new guy showed up with a gst... this is what i know.. hes running 14's on the 1/4 whether they are low or high .. no one knows.. point is i got to smoke this cat.. that is first priority.. so ... i got 1grand boyz... lets get innovative.. what i need is the most intuitive way to pull the most power out of this GS with 1 grand... now i know NOS.. but i need the whole picture.. and im sure you guys can provide it.. so a run down would rock .. of parts/mods and cost.. thanks .. take care..

Is your GS an auto or manual? Also, its completely stock correct??

Well if you don't want to save another $1000 and purchase a turbo kit (the best option) you could get nitrous, and exhaust and intake. There have been a lot of people that have run mid 14's with just these 3 mods.

welcome romboy. For a grand you can get a nitrous kit, intake, exhaust, and an afx udp. You should put you at about 170-180whp and be able to run mid to low 14s. Good luck.

OK .. THANKS FOR allthe info.. the turbo option still is too expensive for me.. 14's sound great and if i can pull it all off for one grand that would rock .. now guys i need a lil more .. you know something that can put me over the top.. just to make sure this sucker dont show me up.. i dunno better fuel deliverey.. somethign that wont cost much but give one extra punch .. btw... logistics on that underdrive pulley why is it so important??? thanks... OH YEA .. one more question.. tranny wise.. any probs there.. will i be ok cuz im an AT...?

Well if you are A/T that is going to put you in the 15's with nitrous, not 14's. Most M/T guys that run 75 shot, the most we can run safely on stock internals, are hitting mid 14's. With a 96 you need a wet nitrous kit which will add the extra fuel you need when you are spraying. If you want more speed than you need to turbo or rebuild the engine so you can spray 100+ shots of nitrous.
The reason people suggest the AFX underdrive pulley is because of how it helps across the rpm band. The pulley weighs about 1 lb compared to the stock pulley which is 3 - 4 lbs. Also the size of the pulley is smaller which sends 30% less power from the engine to the accesories (A/C, power steering and alternator)

If you plan on using nitrous then go with the 10.5:1 compression bottom end here. If you want all motor or light nitrous use, 12.5:1 or if you want the safest streetable turbo for high boost, 8.6:1

hey fast...have you seen that guy on here saying he sprays a 100 shot on here w/ stock internals. He was gonna ask you a ?. He has been tryin to run it on the track and said that everytime he does it the car starts to lean out. I told him that he's probably gonna end up blowing it up without changing the internals, but he said it still runs fine cause he lets off when the car goes lean. Would a fpr help him out.

I would say if he wants to try running 100 shot on stock internals he should start by retarding the ignition. He also may want to install larger injectors and run the car somewhat rich when he is going to spray that much. I think it can be done with perfect tuning. All bolt on's and gauges are a MUST. A Datalogger to keep an eye on the timing retardation would be a good idea too.

thanks for that info.. good stuff.. help me clear up somethings.. when u say light nitrous use what do u mean ? by light.. secondly with that high compression and "lite nitrous" how much power boost are we talkin.. as apose to a lower compression and higher nos shot.. btw how much nos can i use with each setup... thanks a lot guys.. you guys have rocked so far ..
oh yea .. one more hting.. i take it the logical thing to do that once i can offord it to redo the top end as well?... and how much extra power does that high compression give me on its own ?
|
41742, RE: New Cat on the block.. Posted by m_berrow, May-03-02 06:36 AM
low compression and NOS just really means theres less chance of detonation and you dont have to retard the timing as much, but the car will be sluggish and slower than if you went with 10.5:1 comp or 12.5:1 with like a 50 shot or even a 75 shot as long as you retard the timing and tune the car right. You should start with the bottom end kit and redo the compression and then do the top end with some good cams and cam gears along with the ss valves. Electronics are good to have as well so you can keep a good eye on whats happening to your car at all times.

hmm.. ok .. well wait a min im confused.. i thought gettin an engine rebuild would not only boost power .. but also allow me to run more NOS.. why cnat i run a 100 shot.. btw... can the engine rebuild be done without takin the fcr to a shop.. is is a pro shop a must ?
