41272, stupid I knoow.. but I have to ask to make sure... sorry. Posted by jasonhko, Apr-12-02 09:37 PM
I have been reading up on this message board and I see that people are saying to change this and change that before NOS.. I always thought that a small NOS shot could be used without haveing to change anything.. i.e.- exhaust, headers, ect. Is this true?? or have I just been stupid all this time? I own a 99GS-limited edition with no engine mods at all, not even an intake or exhaust. Is that a no no if I am thinking of NOS?? I really dont want to spend a hell of money on upgrades since I live in NYC, and the roads and traffic dont allow for fast driving. But I do want to be able to get a little power out in those RARE chances that I get on the highways or driving really late in the night. I was thinking maybe a 50-75 shot system. Whats the best experience everyone has had with different brands? Oh. one more thing.. I was wondering this as well, the WOT switch turns the system on when engaged, but if I take my foot off the gas say somewhere around 3rd gear because the light changes red or I see one of the many NYPD crusing around, will that damage my engine? or does the system shut off and stop the spray of N2O into my engine?? please give some answers. If this is a stupid post, I am sorry. but I just need some of these answers.
P.S.- like I said.. I live in NYC area, Queens to be exact,.. so I just wanna have NOS for some "fun" on the street when I get the chance, not for the track. Whats the best setup and about how much am I looking at?? I dun wanna spend a fortune cause I dun plan on using it on a daily basis. Plus its TOTALY ILLEGAL in NYC...!!! any ideas on how to "hide" the install??

no, not at all. holley swears that you can safely run a 50 shot system on a completely stock car. (you might want to at least change your plugs to a colder range.) you may want to check for any leaks, or possibly get a compression test before you start spraying, you don't want to find out the hard way that you had a preexhisting problem. many people forget to do this step, then they end up blaming NOS for blowing up their engine, when in reality, it was a problem that was already present.
<< I was thinking maybe a 50-75 shot system. Whats the best experience everyone has had with different brands?>>
I have a 1996 talon and i have been using a NOS 50 wet shot for a year now. i am very pleased. it's not really neck breaking power, but it's enough to pull another car length or two on those shitty hondas.

the WOT switch only sprays when the pedal is all the way to the floor. if you aren't at wide open throttle, you aren't spraying basically. i don't know if you have an AT or MT, but i don't think it would matter. my girlfriend drives my car all the time and she sprays too. we've never had a problem. i live in NY too, and there's a way to get yourself out of NOS tickets. if you install a automatic bottle opener, and a purge valve, you're set. first you close the bottle as soon as you get pulled over. then, you purge out your lines. when the cop comes up to your car, first of all, don't tell him that you have nitrous. secondly, if he finds the bottle, tell him it's for track use only, and then show him that there is no pressure in your line. that would prove that you aren't spraying on public streets. (or are you?? }> ) can a cop give you a ticket because you race your car at a track?? nope.
<<Whats the best setup and about how much am I looking at??>>
YOU NEED: $500 for the basic NOS kit $50 for a pressure gauge
IT WOULD HELP TO HAVE: approx $125 purge valve $125 bottle opener $100 bottle warmer for those chilly NY nights $30 blow down tube
<<any ideas on how to "hide" the install??>>
just put it in your trunk. or something like that. that's my set up, and the seat folds up nicely with no problems.
hope this helps.

I am getting my nos installed today. I also live in nyc. I will be a running a 50 shot on stock internals. You can run up tp a 75 shot safely on bone stock internals.

You don't even really need one range colder plugs when running a small shot. It can't hurt and it's a good safety measure. I run one range colder plug in my Eclipse every day. Make sure your compression and fuel filter are good to go before installing it.

thanks everyone for the feedback.. but im still a little confused. Im worried that once I start spraying, and I suddenly have to stop the car for some reason,.. am I going to BOOM the engine?? I thought that the NOS will still be fed into the engine, but since my foot is off the gas, will that cause a problem?? or does the NOS stop spraying once I take my foot off the gas?? I have a MT not a AT. and I just changed the fuel filter yesterday, along with plugs. (one range colder), along with mobil 1 oil and filter. usual maintenance on the car i do. Oh. I have 60k miles already, should I think about getting a tune-up and changing any or all belts before I install NOS??should I do the 60k maintenance before? or it doesn't really matter?. I like the idea of having a little more power when I want it. I am also wondering if having a WOT switch requires another "primer" switch in the cockpit?? something that i guess would "arm" the system so that I dont accidently start spraying cause some of my friends drive with a lead foot. But basically I am most confused about making sure that the NOS will stop spraying once I take my foot off the gas. I want to make sure that is is possible cause sometimes from light to light isnt 10-15 secs, so I dun wanna be running the engine in neutral and risk hitting the rev limiter.

The system only sprays when at WOT, so when you take your foot off the gas you're back to regular driving. It will not hurt a thing... that's why they make the WOT switch.

and yes, NOS comes with a sitch for inside the car that basically turns on the WOT switch, if you don't flick that switch first, you can floor the gas pedal all you want, it's not going to spray nitrous.

just make sure you get a good name brand kit, some of the cheaper kits don't come with a WOT switch.
