40902, NOS Dry kit SHOT ??? Posted by DSM_Tuner, Oct-03-02 11:56 AM
ok i know this type question has prob been asked before but i can't seem to find exacly what I am looking for in the forum. I have a NOS kit(dry kit) been running it for about 5 months now with a 60 shot with no problems at all. Now I want to upgrade my shot size and was wondering exacly what is the highest shot size i can go with out a upgraded fuel pump or anything like that. I don't really know what all i need to get if I go higher than a 60(dry shot) so if some 1 could tell me everything I would need to safley run over a 60 shot please let me know ;)

I hear about people running a 75 shot all the time. If you wanted to run more you would need fuel delivery/tuning upgrade along with ignition upgrade. Don't quote me on this but you'll probably need a built bottom end and a head gasket upgrade too. As far as the fuel and ignition stuff, I don't know the details. Hope that helps

On a basically stock engine (I/H/E) you don't wanna run higher than a 75 shot. Some people run a 80 shot through a VCN-1000, but they lean out quite easily. If you wanna run 100+ shot, then rebuild the bottom end and squeeze away. It's possible to run 100 shot with upgraded fuel and ignition systems, but it has to be perfectly tuned and you're still taking a risk.

Yeah I run a 75 shot dry kit no prob. It is the highest you should run safly without upgrading fuel and ignition system.

Are you running an NOS kit? What is the number on the pill for the shot of 75? like 0.042 or somthing? just guessing... so you run a 75 with no problems? and you have nothing else done as in fuel pump or anything?

No I'm running a zex kit so I wouldnt know any part numbers fo ya off hand. But no I havent changed anything in the fuel system I just got better plug wires, and changed my fuel filter and did a comp test and put her on. They make most of the kits to work on stock cars.

I have a dry NOS kit also. The biggest pill mine came with is a .36. What is the jet # in your fuel vacuum line? I was trying to find out what jet was 75 also and the jackasses on the NOS tech line said that my fuel vacuum jet wasn't big enough that it would lean out.

As far as the jets go on mine I use a 38 jet for the nitrous line and a 32 jet for the fuel line.

Well on a dry kit you don't use a fuel line or selinoid .. it's just a single nozzle into your Intake tube.... so I don't know how you r looking at your Fuel line jet size when you have a dry kit... or do you have a single port wet kit?

I have a dry kit. The dry kit hooks into your vacuum lines that controls your fuel pressure regulator. It changes the amount of vacuum to raise your fuel pressure so that your car adds the extra fuel when you spray. You also have a pill that goes in that vacuum line just like the one in your nitrous line. That pill determines the amount of extra fuel added.

uuhhh I don't have that on mine.... all I have is the line from the bottle to the selanoid to the nozzle and thats it excpt for the WOT switch .... am I supposed to have all that stuff?

Yeah you probably have it and don’t know it or you would be leaning out. Look at your setup; you should have 2 nitrous solenoids connected with a “T”. At the third end of the T should be a blue cylinder looking thing with a black vacuum hose connected to it. That hose leads to another T witch is were the fuel pill I’m talking about is. Those vacuum lines then connect to the intake mani and the fuel pressure regulator. If you don't have this stuff, take a picture of your setup and post it if its not to much trouble i would like to see it. Did you hook your kit up your self? jesse

I only have 1 selinoid and yeah i pretty much hookedt up my self and I will go and take a pic of it and post it .. .if i can.. i never posted a pic on here so i will try

here i will try to post these sorry if they are not that great ;(

IF you want me to take any specific pic let me know i will try ;)
The selinoid is up like that because i pulled it up like that so you could see it better...otherwise all you see would be the nozzle heheh

In this picture does your nitrous line run through that black thing(sorry i can't make out what it is) on the fire wall or does it just come strait off of the bottle and go to the solenoid? jesse >

40918, RE: NOS Dry kit SHOT ??? Posted by DSM_Tuner, Oct-09-02 03:41 PM
it goes from the bottle in the hatch under the car up into the engine bay to the N2O Sel from that Sel to the nozzle and thats it. Except for the arm switch, the WOT switch, and my MSD Switch Controller ;)

Well I could be wrong, but I think you are missing some key parts. I don’t know how your car is getting the extra fuel it needs when you spray. You might want to get your setup checked out by your local import tuner shop, or maybe some one else reading this post can offer some more information. jesse

Well i have never leaned out or detonated and i have been running this way for about 6 months now with a 60 shot. no one else has ever said anything about my set up being wrong for a dry shot. are you still only using a single fogger nozzle? or is it a double one with 2 lines going to it for fuel and N2O? Let me see some pics of your set up ;) also if you know where i can get a purge kit, a bottle heater, and a remote bottle opener for cheap let me know.

40921, RE: NOS Dry kit SHOT ??? Posted by yellowRS, Oct-10-02 12:26 PM
I guess if its worked for 6 months, then I won’t worry about it. There was someone selling a bottle heater and some other nitrous components in the for sale/ wtb forum for pretty cheap. Here’s my solenoids and all the other stuff i was talking about: jesse

what is the solid blue thing with a rubber hose comming off of it? ok I see one selinoid is for purge and one is nitrous selinoid, but what is the other one and which is which in the pic? tell me how yours is ran in some detail please. ;)

Alright I talked to some people and they gave me a good explanation on why your kit is probably working. This is what they said: The reason you aren’t leaning out is because when you hit WOT your car dumps as much fuel as it can into the engine thus making it run rich. They said that the extra fuel the car is adding is why it is not leaning out but they also said that it’s not safe.
I some what explained how my kit works in a previous post ^^^, but the basic difference is that little blue cylinder between my 2 nitrous solenoids, is what raises the fuel pressure, by raising the fuel pressure my injectors shoot more fuel into my engine. The reason I have 2 nitrous solenoids is so that blue cylinder can read how much nitrous is running through the system and raise the fuel pressure according to the amount of nitrous, thus its never to lean nor rich. :thumbsup I hope this helps I don’t want to see you damage your engine. jesse

Could you give me some part #'s or something so I could get all the extra fuel stuff that I need like you got? I don't want to damage it either..... i have done a compression test about 2 months ago and it was like 195, 195 200, 195 so it all goood!!

40925, RE: NOS Dry kit SHOT ??? Posted by yellowRS, Oct-14-02 06:26 AM
Sorry I took a little bit I’ve been at car shows all weekend. Here are all the parts I think you don’t have. It might be cheaper to just buy a new kit from Summit and have a few extra parts, then buying all this stuff. Anyway here’s what you need:
Description NOS part # • 1-nitrous solenoid(you need 2 total) 16020 • nitrous solenoid TEE 17242 • 4 an nitrous filter 15570 • 1/8” NPT male x 1/8” NPT male nipple 17500 • nitrous pressure regulator 15850 • 1/8” NPT x 3/16” hose barb fitting 16244-A-S • 3 AN hose W/ 1/8” NPT male fitting 15060-1 • Vacuum hose pressure TEE 17538 • Vacuum hose 15005 • Fuel pressure safety switch 15685 • Wiring relay- 30 amp 15618-S • Harness for wiring relay 15604-S
Here you go when you get all this stuff let me know and if you need the installation instructions I will scan them in and send them to you. jesse
