40313, Question about Hahns S16G
Posted by neovb, Mar-05-03 10:57 AM
The Super 16G that comes with Hahns Stage 1 kit is supposed to run at 5-6psi, right? The stage 2 runs at about 10. A normal 16G should boost around 10psi stock, from what im told. What does hahn use to control the boost? Do they just change around the internal wastegate configuration to lower the boost or do they do it some other way? How do they change the boost from thier Stage 1 to thier Stage 2 kits? Thanks.

yes serree bob

wastergate spring is set to a predetmined level. stage 2 actually is 8 psi. 9 psi but a 1 psi drop with the ic.

change the wastegate spring on a stage 1 to stage 2. i am not sure about stage 3? guys here mostly use a boost control to go from 1 and up

you don't have to change the spring, just call up hrc and they'll tell you exactly how to change the boost setting. you have to adjust the actuator arm

Adjusting the actuator arm only gives a few psi change though..thats it

or just buy/make a cheap mechanical boost controller.

So when I finally get an IC for my stage 1 setup and I only want to run 5 or 6 psi I can just get a boost controller and set it to 6 or 7 psi (since you lose 1 psi) and I won't have to mess with the actuator arm or spring?

From what I hear for the turbo boys on my local DSM site, you cant lower the boost with a boost controller past the minimum boost allowed by the wastegate. Boost controllers are supposedly used only to increase boost, not to lower.

100% correct

Exactly. If you add the IC onto a stage 1, you will see around 4 psi, this includes the pressure drop from the IC (1 psi). Now, all you need to do is get a manual (or electronic) boost controller, to set your boost to whatever you want to (higher only). I would do that instead of adjusting the actuator.
