39931, Tranny Question Posted by KiN, Feb-26-03 06:08 PM
I was just reading in another thread about how durable our auto tranny's are. When I got my hahn kit put in, the people that put it in said I should stay at 5 lbs because I was auto and they didn't think the transmission could handle it. So am I safe to go up to 9 lbs of boost? I have a hahn stage II with fmic.
And how easy is it go to 9 lbs from 5, just change a screw in the wastgate, right?
- Thanks in advance

how are you keeping it at 5 psi? a boost controller only incresese boost not decreases so doubt your using that. did you upgrade a stage one? anyways, if its the wastegate srping simple turn it and it should increse the boost 2-3 psi. well thats for the external wastegate on my star kit. the Hahn uses a different wastgate so doubt that will do it for you. You can also buy a cheap ball and spring type boost controller. That will work just fine for about 20 bucks.

Do you have an accessory trans cooler? it would be advisable to get one. there are a few people on the board running higher stages without issues. just keep in mind that this is uncharted territory. to my knowledge, no cars were built that had the A604 and were also turboed. just take care of your transmission, do as many preventative measures as you can. maybe let the car idle in neutral after a hard run, and cross your fingers. one car may blow the trans with grandma driving it to market once a month, and another has the trans going strong for many miles at stage III. some of it IS luck. just do as much as you can to keep the odds in your favor.IMHO
