39910, Anyone using the Crane Turbo Cams? Posted by Nitrous_RS1997, Feb-26-03 07:57 AM
im considering getting these, as i have a worn lobe on my stock exhaust cam right next to the cam gear. figured its bout time to upgrade. will getting these require any shimming or other modifications? or are they pretty much just a drop in replacement, needing only some dyno tuning with the cam gears? thanks for any opinions.

my buddy has a set of crane cams in his 2GNT and his neon, and they were just drop ins, no shimming, etc. needed. He just needs to tune the car on the dyno.

I called HRC last week and they said the 'Mitsu' 420a cams were $526+ shipping (Neon cams are $399?) and had to be special ordered. I haven't had time to research, but Crane does list a different part number for 'our' cars vs. the Neon. Can anyone shed some light here? If you're wondering, I didn't buy them.

You just need to do some searching, cuz when I was gonna build a head for turbo use, I found cams for 399. Go to cranecams.com and see, cuz all their cams are listed at that price, atleast for our cars and the neons. HRC always overprices their stuff.

I bought mine from Howell. I know they are a drop in and require NO shimming. I recommend the springs and retainers too. I haven't installed mine yet but will be in the next week or too.
$500 sounds really steep unless they come with springs. I paid $400 fro Howell like a year and a half ago and waited 6 months for Crane to get it right wth them. Here is the Part Number -431-0014 Grind Number MIT-246-2SR-8
for Mitsubishi 2.0L DOHC 4v 4 cylinder 420a;)

They aren't regrinds so there's no shimming. I would upgrade the rockers, lifters and valvesprings too at the same time.

The 180-0014 cams are for the Neon, the 431-0014 cams are for the Eclipse/Talon. Guess I'll get them from Howell instead. I already have PT lifter/rockers, CNNP springs, and oversize valves, so I just need the cams. Thanks for the info guys!

I ordered them too to go with my 2.2L. They dont seem to be too aggressive for the street tho I am wondering how lumpy the idle will be with them and if I will pass emissions testing. Hopefully they are worth the money.
