39754, The upper stages are a BITCH, but man they are fun! Posted by JustOne, Feb-23-03 07:23 PM
FINALLY I have the car back on the street after only 2 months of total BS! I was about to through in the towel, fortunately I was able to get it all worked out and I can drive it. For how long? I don’t know.
Replaced:
Tranny (gear side) -- 400.00 Upper lower lateral control arms -- 100.00 Flywheel -- 420.00 Clutch -- 450.00 Output shaft bearing -- 60.00 Input shaft bearing -- 50.00 Quaife -- 1200.00 Axles free Tires -- 500.00 Rims -- 1000.00 Ac/alt belts -- 40.00 Coil pack/wires/plugs -- 100.00
Total 4320.00, it’s been and expensive two months.
But the boost is so fucking good that I soon forget about the cost. I forgot how 20lbs on the highway feels and how very untouchable it is.
Ahh it's good to be back. (For now at least)

Thats exactly why I am NOT boosting my car. I can't afford all that.

With my luck, I would be breaking shit before I even got the turbo kit installed.

Cost sucks and downtime sucks but taring up modded gt Mustangs on the way home makes it all worth it.

it's great that you have your car back on the road, if you don't mind me asking what do you do for living?

why and why again did u replace all that ??

39767, RE: The upper stages are a BITCH, but man they are fun! Posted by BoostedGS, Feb-24-03 04:06 AM
Congrats Brian! It's about time you got it running again!! :P You should swing by my house sometime and give me a ride!
If it ever warms up in this cold ass state, I'd like to work out the issues I'm having with my car so I can run about 15psi. But right now I've got an oil leak somewhere, and I still have that ticking noise that didn't go away when I replaced my lifters. I might have a flat spot on the roller of one of my rockers or something. That's probably what I'll try next.
Anyway, I could use some assistance from a Stage 4 guru!

Tranny (gear side) <---because it broke, output shaft broke. Upper lower lateral control arms -- 100.00 <----because the where making noise.
Flywheel -- 420.00 <--------because aluminum is ligher and better
Clutch -- 450.00 <------------because it broke
Output shaft bearing -- 60.00 <-----because it was clicking and broke
Input shaft bearing -- 50.00 <---because it was clicking and broke
Quaife -- 1200.00 <---------because I like LSD hahahaha
Axles free <----------They broke
Tires -- 500.00 <-----where bald
Rims -- 1000.00 <------for fun and my old ones where bent, 3 of the 4
Ac/alt belts -- 40.00 <-------because the needed it
Coil pack/wires/plugs -- 100.00 <----stock coil was cooked
>You should swing by my house sometime and give me a ride!

Actually, I live in Highlands Ranch now, right by Park Meadows mall. I moved to Denver about 3 weeks ago.

Hey, I'm getting pretty good at that seeing as how my friend is the one who works on my car for me. It's practically his car...

www.nopi.com it was like 460 or something after shipping I think.
Non modular CM stage 3 w/ CM aluminum flywheel
I think Modern Performance has them for like 430.00 or something like that.
Thanks for letting me know Patrick...

i can't wait until i start breaking drivetrain parts - i'll be able to learn a lot more about the NVT350 :rolleyes and i'll be able to upgrade to a LSD. the increaced traction must be really good. my transmission has about 136k miles on it, but it still shifts very smooth and doesn't grind at all. i justify having things break is good, because you replace it with something better than stock. it's expensive, but hey... in the end you end up with a really nice car.

you get the clutch and the flywheel for 460??? damn..thats a good price..i will have to look into that next time i replace mine..non modular is much easier when it breaks b/c its not 800 to replace the pressure plate...good deal...so did i read that right, 460 for the both combined??
|
39797, RE: The upper stages are a BITCH, but man they are fun! Posted by JustOne, Feb-24-03 09:27 AM
No, 460 for the clutch kit only (pressure plate, clutch disk, TO bearing)
and 420 for the aluminum flywheel, for a total of ~880.00 for both.
You can just get a '95 neon flywheel at a junk yard for around 50.00 and then have it resurfaced for ~20.00. That would make it still cheaper than a modular clutch.
I just bought the aluminum flywheel because I like to wast money (as you can see)
Breaking drive line stuff isnt fun in any way, shape or form. It sucks ass. I would much rather do anything else to my car than work on that part. (too many bearings)

why didn't you get stage 2 axles? I sent you a PM

39805, RE: The upper stages are a BITCH, but man they are fun! Posted by fly1, Feb-24-03 01:32 PM
Brian, I'm glad your ride's back on the road:D Did you install the Quaife yourself or did a shop install it for you. The reason I'm asking is, I read in the current issue of Sports Compact Mag and they said something about you needing to align certain things, it's not easy, etc. How did it go?

Muahahahaha... If you like wasting money, then go ahead and pony up another 700 bux for the last set of axles that you will ever need to buy (Driveshaft Shop stage 2). -=B-=

As far as the axles go I do know about them but have yet to get around to buying them. I will probably get them sometime soon...
Kon, I had a shop put the bearings on it and I did the rest myself. Nothing to difficult really, I just used RRE quick like semi walk through.

Unless you are already breaking axles, do not bother. Some cars break them, some do not. Armond broke tons of driveshaft shop axles. They have redesigned them after he kept sending them in showing what was breaking which was different most every time. They have held up now and I suspect they will hold up for most anyone else. I am still on stock axles myself.

I broke a Stage 3 axle, thank you very much! They don't even make the Stage 3's anymore, but they're really nice. :thumbsup

It’s not really that big of a deal when they break because of the life time warranty on them. As for my car breaking them, it does and this is the third stocker that has broke. This one was the first to completely snap so that the wheel wouldn’t turn. The shop that I get my OEM parts from hates me. Oh well
