Yep, just leave it off. Make sure to block both holes (of course). If you don't want to the CEL, supposedly, you can put a resistor between the two wires where the solenoid was. Use a 10KOhm 10W resistor. I haven't tried the resistor trick yet, but will shortly.

Hey, my info was at work, so I was going off memory (and very little sleep yesterday when I replied). The resistor should be 1.2KOhm 10W. Sorry for the wrong info the 1st time. It wouldn't hurt anything, but you'd get a CEL, so no big deal.

I also did the EGR mod. You could do what MKERLEY mentioned in his post. My only suggestion would be to use a good gasket with a high temp sealant. Also, if you're going to cut your own block-off plate, use aluminum or sheet metal that's fairly think (1/8" is best), because I had some idle problems after the mod. It was caused from leaks at the blockoff plates. I used an aluminum sheet that was too thin and it warped when I tightened it down--causing the leaks. As for the resistor install, I haven't installed one and somehow, I never got a CEL. I've done this mod for about 2 months now.
