39175, How hard would it be....? Posted by etx, Feb-14-03 11:21 AM Hello, as many of you know i am new to the world of turbo cars. So here comes another noob question. How dificult is it to replace the rods / pistons myself? What would the entire process envolve removing from my car? I have been a dsm owner for over 7 years and I have done all the work myself on all of them. But I have always been afraid to mess with the engine or transmission internals. Anything beside that I don't mind getting into. All this talk about turbo'ed 420a's is scaring the shoit out of me! I have been wanting to do this for a while, and i always rather do the work myself IF i can. TIA! | |

39179, RE: How hard would it be....? Posted by MetalJim, Feb-14-03 11:45 AM If you insist on boring or if the cylinders are too out of round - then you have to pull the motor to have it machined. But if the cylinders are good you can do it while the engine is in the car. Pull the head, crossmember, and oilpan. Then pull out the pistions/rods - hone the cylinders and replace with the good stuf. Reassemble everything - use a new headgasket. You may also want to change the timing belt components and oil pump while you're at it. | |
