I am considering getting some DOT slicks but have heard things about excessive wear with fwd. I have a SPEC stage 3 and soon will have a PG LSD and a Fidanza flywheel. HRC stage 2, 8-10psi. Will I have more issues with them? What would you prefer: slicks with 16's or lightweight rims and Hi-Pro tires? If you have slicks, I'd like to hear your opinion. Any comments welcome. TIA

Well I don't know a lot about DOT slicks (MT Street ET's or similar?), but going that route is expensive, and expensive. If you're going to spend the $$ on DOT slicks, I'd just go ahead and get full-on drag slicks. Why screw around.

A good, light weight setup is 13" Bogart wheels with M&H slicks. The wheels are $3-500, and the slicks are a little over $100 each, plus tubes ($40 each). Plan on spending $6-700 easy. There are 14", and 15" slicks, but then you have to find wheels for them, and sizes are limited. You want between a 22" and 26" slick and at least an 8" wheel. Every combo I've looked at ends up costing about the same. If you do find a combo, then you'll have to worry about snapping axles.

A much cheaper alternative is Drag Radials. BFG DR's are $275 for 17", and I've run 2.1 60' times on a set of 14" DR's. With some more practice, 2.0's would be no problem, and I think 1.9's should be do-able.

Bottom line is if you want sub 1.9 60' times go with slicks (and upgraded axles), if ~2.0 60' times are enough, I'd go with DR's. Personally, I will probably be starting out the year with DR's, but I'll get some slicks before the shootout when I'll need to be running low 12's.

This is what I was thinking. Getting just front stock size, 205/55-16, Yokohama A032R tires. They are about $150 a piece and running my stock rims. But I'd like some imput.

No, even the stock 14" steelies just _barely_ clear the stock calipers.

Actually, they do fit. I guy I know is running 13" Bogarts with M&H slicks on a GST Spyder. That combo got him into the mid 12's running the same trap speed as what's in my sig.
