My stage 1 HRC arrived this weekend, and I am installing it this Saturday. My question is, do I need to get a new gasket to go between the engine and the new manifold, or can I use the stock one?
Anything else I should know before installing it? I will have air tools and a hydraulic lift to aid with the install:D

The dealer by me left me return the stuff I didn't need. I got the manifold gasket and the oil pan gasket (didn't us the oil). For the price of $30 CDN so like $20 US, way not. I think I planned my install pretty well. I did it over the long weekend and I didn't have to run out for any parts :)

here's a quick list of things I wrote down to buy;

teflon tread dope, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, new plugs, I also did new wires, .75" hole saw (for oil pan), tire valve tool (for fuel rail)

that's all all can think of off hand. The install wasn't that bad, but it took way longer then 8hrs. The only problems I ran into were, the DP to cat bolts wouldn't come off even with a inpact wrench so I had to drop the exhaust. The oil feed line where the stock sending unit is was a bitch, it is in such a small place at the back of the engine it took me 2hrs to get the treads started on the oil line (minus breaks for hand cramps).

Other tips, don't over tighten the clamps they will strip. I got new vaccuum line for the boost guage, I really didn't like the tube that autometer uses. Make sure you can get the turbo and DP in the engine bay, I couldn't so I had to put the turbo on then put the DP on which makes it very hard the tighten the bottom bolt on the DP (I just took out the fans).

I will be installing the kit in a shop, so all the good stuff like paste and tape will be all over the place. As well as taps for the oil pan and all sorts of other stuff. Lots of air tools and oh yeah....a certified mechanic who doubles as a pretty good friend. I'm hoping it won't take longer than 6 hours with all these tools and 4 people working on the car. 3 4g63 guys will be there for the install, as well as another ESi driver. Should be a fun time. :)

Boost Cautiously...

I thought I would have it done in under 6hrs but it was just stupid little things. I too had three 4g63 guys watching over the install, four if you count my girl friend :) But all that does is slow you down, all you will do is talk and drink beer. Trust me you will spend your whole time watching over your friends making sure they don't screw anyhing.

Just out of curiousity, how fast did you guys install your kits?

I will get you the part number for the best exhaust manifold gasket to use when I get to the office later today!

The number was in the instructions for the kit, it is 04621833. It is the same gasket that was already on the car, I just replaced it with the new one just to be on the safe side even know the staock gasket was still good.
