Poll question: Opinion on MAF sensor.

I prefer MAP, since I am a speed density junkie. Speed density lets you get away with a lot of things that Mass Air doesn't (such as minor vacuum leaks not effecting your STFT and LTFT. It is also nice to be able to vent the blowoff valve to atmosphere.

ya, definately. i like the idea of using a MAP a lot better, it just seems like it would be more accurate to me than measuring the amount of air going by. being able to use an open-to-atmosphere blow off valve is really nice too. i'll never get sick of the sound of my RFL :P although, if buying a DSMLink required installing an aftermarket MAF i'd almost go for it. the DSMLink is nice.

then again, i could always get the eManange and have the little "Take it Easy!" guy all over the place. sooo good.

There is a reason why 1g turbos buy VPCs. That reason is to get rid of the MAS/MAF and convert to a speed density air meter.

if anything, a three-bar MAP would be nice.

or even a 4 bar MAP sensor. I am just crazy enough to try 35 psi in a 2.4. :D

Besides just totally preferring it for its simplicity of use and more compact design, if you ever listen to a 2gnt turbo versus a 4g63 turbo, you'll quickly realize that the absence of a MAF/MAS makes our turbos SO much more evident by their noise, and I wuld also say so much more intimidating.

As far as turbo noises in a 4g63(like in my laser or in my bro's GS-T), I can only hear his high pitched squeaking BOV.

Jason, you only hear that because you are running a stock Laser and your brother has a T-25'd 2g. If you heard my car it would sound nothing at all like that. As soon as I touch the gas pedal I can hear the turbo whirring in there. The sound of the thing spooling when I accelerate is so much louder and more pronounced than the S16G on my GS...it's like night and day. See? Size does matter :P

(actually it is just the 3" metal turbo intake pipe and IC pipes that help amplify the sound, along with the huge turbo, of course)
