Well I was wondering what you guys thought about this idea. I for one am not too fond of my 10cm turbine housing and was thinking it would be an easy fix just to put a mitsu 7cm housing on it to make it a normal 20g.

I am fully aware of the bolt pattern...so please don’t educate me there, as well as the DP flange. I have fixes for both.

I just want to know if you think it would be a better to run a s20g or 20g.

AND WHY PLEASE!

I think runing a 20G is a good idea, but you might need to address the wastegate. You will probably end up getting boost creep with the 20G. Your best bet is to go to an external wastegate. Another option would be to have a custome garret from forced performance built for you since you already have the manifold. I would go with the garret since it allows you so many options. Both will need an external wastegate.

I really want a green from fp but price wise I was thinking I could do a 20g for cheaper. I have an extra housing so all I would need is to send my turbo to HRC and get it made into a s20g. Once I got it back I would just put on the smaller 7cm housing. It would be 500 vs 13-1500$.

The green was designed to be a bolt on solution for 4G63's. It is not really the best solution for us. We have many more options. I still like the idea of a custom garret specced out from FP. The 20G will work fine, but still consider that you are going to need to redesign your setup to allow for an external wastegate. One of the advantages of the S20G is less compelxity. A 20G with an external should be a nice setup though. You will find yourself breaking the tires everywhere you go.

I also like the FP Green, but instead, I think I'm going to upgrade to the S20G instead. Besides, no boost creep.

The hell with a FP green, go with a FP red or a L3R, LOL!! Seriously, I would agree to go with the 20G.

BTW: What ever happened to MUTT turbos? I use to hear and read alot about them, but now everyone wants a FP or a L2-L3R, are they not as good of a turbo? I'm about to upgrade the turbo in my '90 GS-T, just looking for some options.

I heard Mutt's had quality control problems. A guy I know had to have his fixed (after less than a year), and it came back (6 weeks later)in worse shape than when he sent it in. Some of the Mutt levels also didn't perform very well.

Well, once you get past the green, you are basically into a non-street ic. I have a friend with a red on his 1g awd talon and that thing is not a street turbo. The green is a boarderline street turbo in my opinion. If you want a really nice street turbo that's still capable of pulling off sweet numbers at the track, I would do as Chris said and get a custom garret from FP. I guarentee you they will find the absolute perfect turbo for what you want to do. They know their stuff over there.

anyways guys i have a mutt turbo and to put that baby in my car is a pain i had it for many months and nothing worked. No one down here in miami wants to do the manifold not even SFP since they state that it wll be to hard to make it for my car. Since One has to screw into the turbo not the other way around. That is the main reason I think that most NT cars like honda and 2gnt go with t3/t4 because of the design of the backhousing and how easy is to connect to manifold with not many probles, taht is why haHn desiged that S20g housing, in my opinion.:-)

Funny timing your question. As of today my turbo is being machined to fit a TD06 turbine wheel by FP. I guess that is my way of answering your question. I am going hybrid something, but not in the direction you are thinking. This will hopefully be an excellent fwd turbo. I had a lot of the same deliberations as you do, but I hope the lag is minimal and the gain is worth it. There should be more to gain than to lose. One of the reasons I am doing it is to take full advantage of my 7800rpm redline. The other is because I have every single supporting mod in place to handle it and I am just being a wuss by not doing it. :P My car can handle it. I expect minimal loss in low end and a large gain in top end. The larger turbine should reduce backpressure and allow my turbo to spool up a lot smoother which just may help out traction being fwd. We shall see.

If it helps, Armond is making 18psi around 3500 on his S20G and that works out to over 340fwhp. If it came on any faster he would have even less traction than he has now. Longer gearing should help out with traction, which I already have. I am not sure how his turbo compares exactly to what I am doing though. I can guess I will make less power but with smoother spool up which on the street in my eyes will even it out. The same principal behind longer gears really.

the tdo5H will create too much exhaust manifold backpressure at high boost levels to even slightly utilize a smaller housin than 10 cm. if you are going with a smaller turbine housing, increase the size of the turbine as well to a td06.
