3819, Emissions??

I live in MD, and emissions are pretty strict. Will I still be able to pass with Star Stage 1?

It will depend on how strict strict really is. Is there a visual? Also, it depends on how much the mechanic doing really knows what they are looking at. I say just take it in and see what happens. Mine passed better than stock on the sniffer test :) and as for visual, well I really do not think the guy knew what he was looking at and what my engine was supposed to look like.

If you have a boost controller, is there anyway you could set boost to zero psi before you take it in, then it'd be just like normal, wouldn't it?

Boost controllers don't work that way. You can only go as low as your wastgate's standard setting (ie 5psi or whatever it may be)

Personally I dont see what the big deal would be. I mean a turbo adds quite a bit of horse power but it shouldnt change you're emmissions much I wouldnt think. And if they did how much could it possibly be? I mean GST's and many other cars with turbos pass emissions just fine. Personally I would think you'd be just fine.. I may be wrong, but thats the way I see it..

See, to pass Emissions with Star's kit, you have to first...Weld the wastgate dump tube into the down pipe. Because your wastegate dump tube bypasses your entire exhaust, dumping it right into the air!! But after that...your set. Unless they know what they are looking for:-) I hope mine passes with no problems when I have to smogg it in a little over a year.

Is welding the dump tube into the downpipe easy or is it something tough (welding's not a problem, my bro can do it and so can my dad, but i'm talking about where does the dump tube weld into the dp?)

Damn, looks like Im going to have to do the same living in MD too and all. BASTARD emissions. I forgot all about those guys. Oh well, I have a buddy that welds, so I'll leave it open until emission time comes around.

...you will fail visual unless you personally went to a "referee station" AND also got your own C.A.R.B. E.O. sticker made for the kit. The Star can be made street legal in Cali so long as you have the CARB EO paperwork/stickers. You can do it yourself just ask a performance shop that swaps engine where the referee stations are. These high performance swap shops need the referees to get the bigger engine street legalized and/or to acquire accurate emission and Carb stickers for under your hood.

Even though I'm not in Cali, where can I get these CARB papers/stickers?
