I live in Illinois and lately it's been below 0 here. Apparently, even though it's been garaged my RS has trouble starting. I can get it to turn over but it sputters and the RPMs dip real low. The battery light flashes and then the RPMs shoot up and it's fine. So it doesn't die but still I'm wondering why it keeps having such a hard time starting. After it's warm it starts right up so I'm hoping it's the cold. I'm just VERY paranoid after just putting in this turbo kit and I haven't ordered my Vortch regulator yet :-( .

Oh yeah by the way, I put it in this forum because a guy I know said that turbocharged cars have trouble starting in the winter. Is this true?

I'm not sure if all turbo charged cars have trouble starting in the winter but I don't have any trouble. I turn the key to the on position, let the pumps (Walbro and Accel) build fuel pressure until I hear the Accel inline pump stop, then start the car. It starts right up and idles just like it did when it was stock.

I live in New Jersey and the past two weeks have been very cold. I am also using the vortech SFMU.

yep same here, i have no probs starting the car. I do prime the fuel pumps too before i crank the car, it usually helps to start up right away instead of cranking for a bit longer. I would check into your battery and alternator to be sure those are in good condition first, as really cold weather is hard on batteries. Could be fuel system related also, maybe check out your fuel pressures while you are cranking the car to be sure they are high enough. SFMU here also btw

Im almost sure its your battery. it was -10 degrees here the other night, and my dads car wouldnt start the next day. took otu the battery, brought it inside, let it warm up, put it back in and it fired right up. cold weather is hard on batteries.

Yeah now that it's warming up a bit the thing started up just fine. Cars are weird.

I havent got my car running since it got cold out, so your doing better than me, havent really looked @ it too much, cranks like a champ, but i think its overloading on fuel due to that damn pesky DFI, turned down cranking fuel and it still wouldnt start, coil pack read out of spec outside , but brought it inside and soaked it in warm air for a day and it tests good, so i dunno, modded cars = pain the the ass if you have a busy schedule, i might sell my car soon and get a new 350z for warrenty and looks.

p.s. i've had the same thing happen, battery light, low rpm's sputters, then the alt starts charging the battery and its fine... bet you charge the battery up good, or better yet, replace it, and you'll be good to go... I'll trade you problems ;-)
