There is so much information on what things to buy in addition to the HRC turbo kit. Everyone has a different opinion of what you need and don't need right away to make it work efficiently. Could someone put it down plain and simple what I'm going to need in order to make the kit work right without getting out of hand with electronics and gauges? Remember: Plain and Simple, and some well explained reasons for every part. I think this will be a big help to the DSM newbies.

ALrighty, to put it plain and simple.

For the necessities:

1. EGT gauge = extremely important, IT WILL save your motor by telling you when to back off the throttle when it gets too hot (1600 degrees)

2. A\F gauge = tells you whether you are lean or not, correlates with the EGT gauge by telling you WHY you are hot

3. Vortech SFMU = replace the crappy HRC\Cartech fuel pressure regulator, unless you wanna keep adjusting the fuel pressure almost everytime you start the car (especially in the rain)

4. Bigger exhaust, 2.5 in. or bigger = faster spool up = more power

You can buy more things such as an oil pressure gauge, water temp. gauge, etc........remember, the more gauges you have, the better you can monitor almost ever aspect of your motor, you'll be in a much better position to know whether something is right or not. The 4 things above will get you started in the right direction. Oh yeah, don't worry about a boost gauge, the HRC kit comes with one.

Oh yeah I almost forgot, the MOST important thing you can have while undertaking such project is.......................KNOWLEDGE!!!!!!!!!

You can't just slap a turbo kit in there and forget about it.

You also might want to look into replacing the stock clutch with a Clutchmasters.....you will eventually wear out the stock one.

its around 280 bucks from either SummitRacing.com or Vortechsuperchargers.com , id probably order from Summit, they tend to be a lot quicker sending stuff than vortech. oh yeah, if you are gonna drop money on a SFMU, might as well spend 180 more bucks and get some 30lb injectors from SummitRacing too, so you can actually use the SFMU. i believe the single price part # for the injectos is ACC-1050130 from Summit.that part # might have changed. if you call them, the dipshit will tell you they dont sell them individually, only in sets of 8, but they are wrong. the bigger injectors will allow you to run lower fuel pressures and boost more safely.

I keep hearing about the need for the Walbro 255 lps intank pump? Is that important?

I dont completely understand the s-fmu. I know very little about fuel delivery and its the only part of this project thats intimidating. i'm not any kind of expert, but i dont lack the balls to dive into something challenging. anything you can tell me would be helpful. :7

I still have the cartech fpr. I made sure the idle pressure bolt is secured real tight. But I don't seem to have any problems with my idle pressure fluctuating everytime I start the car. But then again I must be one of the very lucky few to have a good one.

No, its not necessary, but if you dont put that pump intank, then your inline fuel pump that comes in the kit, will be pretty darn loud. A loud whining sound. I deal with it, and am used to it now, but it does get on your nerves every once in while. By adding the intank pump, it quiets the inline pump down a lot, from what i have heard.

Basically, the SFMU is a boost pressure fuel pressure regulator that raises your fuel pressure to the injectors under boost, to give the engine more fuel under boost. When you up the pressure on an injector, it sprays more fuel, which is what we want to do when we are under boost, because of all that extra air we are forcing into the engine. The HRC kit will come with a Cartach fuel pressure regulator, but MANY have had pressure issues with it. It can fluctuate fuel pressure frequently, esp at idle. Many people, including me, have upgraded to the SFMU for superior fuel pressure management. Rock solid fuel pressures, and great adjustability, and versatility are excellent features of the SFMU. If you ever wanted to upgrade to larger fuel injectors, then the SFMU can be tailored to fit those injectors using different internal disks that are available. The fuel system really isnt that complicated, just be sure to tune your fuel pressures properly, and that they stay consistant all the time.

Whats fuel pressure suppose to be at idle and during boost?? And how do you adjust it?
