Who had trouble breaking loose the top feed line from the factory pump? Is there anyone who was not able to break it loose? Any suggestions in addition to vice-grips (I'm aware of which side turns and which doesn't whoever still am not sure on how you held the fuel pump assembly still as you worked without putting pressure on the fixed line). So far I've read Wyatt and Jason say they broke it free without too much problems. Reading the Walbro VFAQ they make it sound like there's only a 5% chance of breaking loose the damn thing. I have another 12 days before I attempt the install and would like to know inadvance where I'll be cursing and kicking the car(The one damn part of my car that hasn't been removed bi-yearly or more).

BTW I had planned on installing the FP and FMU prior to going home to install the rest but now I dont know. At least I have alternate transportation there.

i'm assuming you're trying to take the feed-line off while the pump is still in the car, right? i took one apart while the pump hanger was out of the tank and it came loose fairly easy. it took a good amount of pressure, but nothing ridiculous. i just let the pump hanger dangle freely in the air while i turned both wrenches in opposite directions so there was no chance of me twisting the hard-line. but i guess if you're aware of where the ends of your wrenches are and be sure to apply TWISTING force and NOT DOWNWARD force you should be ok.

i'd suggest flare-nut wrenches instead of vice grips but if you're comfortable with the vice-grips, i guess it doesn't matter either way. i'm sure you're aware but i thought i'd say it anyway... the fitting that's on the hose is NOT a swivel fitting. the part that swivels is the smaller nut that's on the tube side.

yes (inside the car) and yes (aware of swiveling nut). Hopefully I'll have an as easy time as you. I'll try the cressant wrench first (I guess if I dont strip anything I wont need vise-grips).

noooooo nooooo don't try to use any wrench but vice grips! The fittings is like welded on tight! And since you have a 95 like me as well...it won't budge

It was impossible for me so I gave up and just undid the lower hose fitting (where the softline connects to the hardline) and cut up my car so I can get the assembly out (like in the VFAQ for the WALBRO FWD install).

I used a flare fitting wrenches. (14mm and 17mm) It came right off.

I'm thinking that DSM might have changed the turning characteristics of that driver's side nut on the top fuel fitting. Why? In the VFAQ, it said that it is "welded" on there and CANNOT turn. Not on mine. The driver's side nut TURNS and is similar to a compression nut.

OK that verifies it! I have a 95 and on my drivers side NUT (the nut on the brass line) won't turn, it's welded onto the line making it one whole piece!

darn all that wasted effort. lol

hehe, you dont have to take that apart to do it. i did mine while the lines on top were still connected.

BUT,
i still need some help. i cant get the car started. it sounds like it wants to start. me and my friend just tried for like an hour trying to push start it and priming it and shit. i think i might have flooded it though. the problem is though, that electrical connection broke. i though i would be able to tap it up pretty good so there is still a connection, but i dont think so. does anyone know what this is called so i know what to say when i order another one?

I don't know the name of that connector besides knowing what it does.(or the name that I titled this post with)

It powers your fuel pump and hence keeps your fuel system pressurized. Without that fuel pump having enough power, your fuel system won't be pressurized and therefore your engine can't get enough fuel (if any).

Get that electrical connector up to par. I think you can do it, if you take enough time to get those connections solidified. I find a good three or four good twists, together with some generous use of solder should do the job.

I know that if sometimes when I forget to plug that connector back up, my car won't start either. Then after a short "Jason you dummy" moment, I plug that electrical connector back up, and it starts right up.

Speaking for the '95s (who knows better than someone that owns one!) It DOES come off. Obviously because its a '95 it has just had more YEARS to set itself tight!!!!

Hehehe, funny no one had thought of that before!!! Oh and I did NOT cut up my sheetmetal either.

Well just check your fitting to see if it can actually turn or not...

There's apparently two different versions of the fuel bracket assembly too (one with o ring, the other without).

Perhaps the ones with orings have the nut welded on???
