37796, Anyone gotten wind of a "newer" MSD ignition?
Posted by Nitrous_RS1997, Jan-22-03 07:06 PM
I just heard at the shop today(may be old news, may not be) of a MSD ignition that will be laptop programmable, with timing retard based on boost, at what you set it at. there will also be a 2 stage "launch" limit for at the strip...anyone else heard of this? i also was around the Honda boys talking about a BTC(boost timing controller) that retards timing based on boost, at intervals and amounts you set it at. very interesting.

there has been some talk about it buy i don't think anyone has one yet.

are you talking about this one?

MSD 6BTM, PN 6462
Supercharged or turbo engines will benefit from the 6BTM in more ways than one. Not only do the full energy sparks help burn the fuel mixture, it allows the driver to retard the ignition timing based on the amount of boost being produced by the supercharger. The timing is adjusted from a dash
mounted knob and can be retarded 1 - 3° per pound of boost with a maximum of 15°. There is also a built-in adjustable rev control to protect the engine from over-rev damage.
Note: Same specs as the 6A except for Size:

Sounds like it....except this was supposed to be set with a laptop. but hell, that one would probably get the job done. seems like something like that would help out peoples detonation problems.

I think you're talking about these:

Programmable DIS-2 Ignition Control Part Number 6212
Multi-Channel Boost Retard Control Part Number 6562

I am pretty sure 1 or 2 people on the board already have the programable DIS-2 because it came out like 6 month ago or maybe even a little longer.

armond likes living on the edge, then falling off and picking up the broken pieces, haha. The programmable units have been out for awhile like they said... dis-2 will suit most just fine though...

like mike said,
I got the programmable dis2. you can retard based on boost and rpm, there are several rev limiters, and basically it is a pretty cool unit. i've been using it for like 6 months now and have not had any problems with it.
