37368, Blow Off Valve Questions Posted by a_miller_76, Jan-13-03 11:41 PM
Okay, my buddy has a HKS blow off valve and it sucks. Whenever it goes off it has this high pitched spike sound. Like bending steel, only faster. Makes me wanna vomit.
When I put this stuff together I want a nice "Pshhhhhhhhh" type BOV. What do you guys suggest?

I love mine, so does everyone else that hears it as well(except for old people that I scare with it).

Which HKS bov? Because the super sequential has two sounds (hence the name. :9). The high pitch sound is during light boost, and then there's a really LOUD PSSHHHHHH that follows if it's high boost.
If it's that one and your friend is running low boost numbers, then ask him to unscrew the bov til it's almost off.. that should make second sound come out faster.

Well, unfortunately I'm convinced I won't like that BOV. If you like it, cool...but I don't want to spend that money to get it and find out after adjusting it I still don't like it.
Anyone else with ideas on this?

If you want, email me @ avengr1995@aol.com and ill send you a movie clip of the car on the dyno to kind of get an idea of what it sounds like at low boost (~9psi). It gets louder and meaner at higher boost, but itll give u a taste. it is a .mov file tho, so u need quicktime

I have the Turbo XS Type S and i really like it. It will gobble a tad bit when i shift at 1 or less psi, but after that, a good phsssssttt will come out, and its pretty loud IMO. You can also put some washers inside of it to "tune" it somewhat for different boost levels.

I'm not sure what kit or set-up you will be running but I got no complaints on the HRC supplied 3000GT one. Sure it's plastic but it give out a very audible PSSSHT! :D The look of by-standards...:o
btw - I got the HKS SSBOV going in soon.

I had the turboxs type-h rfl..it had a nice sound to it..but you're right..it sounds like a damn truck.. it was an 'ok' sound..but i got CEL codes once every couple of months due to venting to atmosphere. Venting to atmosphere isn't good for your car or your MAS. I took my TurboXS Type-H RFL off and i bought a Greddy Type-S. Greddy Type-S is much better and holds boost a lot better. Sounds like the blow off valves from the civic/eclipse in fast and furious. very sharp clean sound.

whistling blow-off = rice
the RFL will hold up to 30lbs of boost reliably, more than can be said for the type-s. On my friends ITR, the type s would leak anything above 20psi, and had to be screwed in so far that it wouldnt evn go off under light driving.
if the rfl is leaking thats what the washers it comes with are for ;)
our cars dont have a MAS, so we can vent to the atmosphere ;)
