3736, HRC and my bottom-end???
Posted by 9D9 MITSU RS, Apr-13-01 04:22 PM
If I put in a stage 2 HRC Super 16G turbo kit with FMIC, would it blow the pistons and all my bottom-end out of my 420A? I have a 99 RS with a little over 30,000 miles.

not unless you run more than 10 psi of boost.

bring it on............

SOmeone told me that all that power even at 7-8 PSI would probably blow out some pistons after a few redlines??? Is it a known fact tat nothing will go wrong? Or that it hardly ever happens???

it shouldn't hurt you as long as you don't use a lot of boost. but, in my opinion, it' better to spring for the pistons, rods and rings so that you can use all the boost you want and not have to worry about hurting anything, besides the small mishaps that happen.

that statement is so far from the truth. You could have the strongest pistons in the world in your motor, but if you ain't got the fuel supply, you still will not be able to run over 9-10 PSI. just because you have stronger pistons, does not mean your car won't detonate.

the stage II should come with the right parts for the fuel supply. so, like i said, if he gets the bottom end done, he shouldn't have any major problems.

Well, I really want to know, is it do-able to just run about 7-8 PSI of boost safely on stock internals for a good while??? Maybe a year or so until I can get the engine built???
3743, YES!!

YES !! Just make sure your car is not DETONATING !!!
you can boost up to 16psi on stock internals just as HRC
has proven with their system "BUT" you have to make sure
that the fuel system is adequate for the power being produced.

This does not mean get an HRC stage 2 kit and boost 16psi because its all good. !

The stock 420A rods have a limit somewere a little over 300hp.
Im going to keep saying this. FUEL ! Because the pistons will
be happily produce major HP as long as they are not Melting due
to lack of fuel ! :)
