37343, What is with this stupid car?
Posted by EclipseRST, Jan-13-03 02:09 PM
Alright, I installed my stage 1, and every time I go WOT it boosts just fine. But when I ease into boost, right when I hit 0 on my gauge, my car hesitates. It feels like I let off the gas real quick then get back on it. This only happens when I hit 0 vacuum. Is this normal?

Also, what does a misfire feel like? Because this problem has happened before and Autozone said it was related to my MAP sensor and I checked it out and everything was hooked up perfectly.

what are you using to clamp map voltage under boost.. ie.. missing link,FCD,etc..

are u using the vortech fmu with the star kit? mine does the same from 4 vac to 0psi. i was told it was normal for this to happen, but maybe i was misinformed.

I know what you mean it happens to me too excepts mine happens at 4-5 psi and then it finally reaches 7-8 lbs.

it's my guess that FCD isn't responding to your MAP voltage quickly enough. get a Synapse Engineering "missing link" from group5motorsports.com and your problem will be solved. you will no longer need your FCD if you do this.

however, i did not have much luck with the missing link. i installed it correctly, made sure everything was sealing, etc etc etc and it has the exact same problem that you're describing. fuel cut at static pressure, and not under boost or any type of vacuum. i don't get it, other than my missing link is defective. for now, i'm running both. in case my FCD fails, the missing link will sort of work. if the missing link tweaks, i still have the FCD working. anyways, good luck with your hesitation problems.

Check your plug gaps too.

My plugs are gapped at .35

I guess what I really want to know is whether or not this is a serious problem or just a minor annoyance? Will detonation occur because of this? Because I thought with detonation you'd hear a knock. This has no sound, it just feels like it did when I first learned to drive a manual =). Thanks guys.

When I was running NGK BRK7E-11's gapped at .35 I had the same problem, I used the same plug, just gapped it to .50, and that solved my problem, however, I changed to missing link from electronic FCD the same week. I should have changed one at a time to pin point my problem, but I didn't. Sorry.

i wouldnt run a turbocharged cars plug gap so high as .50, the pressure from the forced induction can sometimes blow out the spark if the gap is too large. .30-.35 is the customary gap to use. but hell, if it works it works!

I had similar problems when I had my plugs gapped at .035, when I dropped it down to .030 evrything went away and she's been running fine ever since.
