37273, just wanted to share
Posted by Avenger EST, Jan-11-03 05:36 PM
I know this may not be technical info, or a question, I just wanted to share. I recently fixed a boost leak on my car, and now, my car is ABSOLUTELY haullng BUTT!!! for the first time ever, I was able to spin BOTH tires from a ROLL in THIRD at 18 PSI!!!!!!! I am extatic. the car feels AL KINDS of strong. I am not putting my msd back on unless I just REALLY get the erge to run nitrous on my car (which I don't think I need now). all have to say is good gawd............good gawd. the car is just so stupid fast, I had to share.......and this is ME talking (I have a very high defintion of "fast")

That's great! It always feels good when the car is running right. Glad you found the problem with your car.

How do you not need to pull timing at 18psi? is the avenger ecu diff from the talon and advance less timing? I thought we needed timing retard around 14-15psi is that right?

Are you still using the AFX ECU in the car? or is it in another vehicle?

A big front mount in the cold temps of winter will really help with predetonation. I know many 4G63 guys running 3-4 psi more on pump gas. Some are running the same boost and using advanced timing maps to take advantage of the weather. 35-40F OAT compared to 90-95F is a huge difference, as long as you have the extra fuel to handle the colder/denser air you will be fine. I run very rich in summer and the extra fuel actually helps with cooling, in the winter I am running more boost with the same fuel and my egt is staying the same, but my O2 voltage is lower.

I was running 25psi on 93 octane yesterday - until the little hose above the exhaust manifold let go. Oops! No knock and good egt's though, and it was hella fast. BTW, it was like 25 degrees here yesterday.

Was the MSD causing your problems?

his msd malfunctioned and was giving armond mad problems he has choosen to not use msd untill he really needs to.

he was at 18psi on 17degrees advance on the timing, he is not usging the afx ecu, hes running 720 injectors on the accell dfi

Stage 3 fuel setups require the timing retardation at 14 - 15 psi.

Armond and Greg are running a LOT more fuel than Stage 3 is.

It is good to hear that.

We swapped ecu's. The AFX will go into mine. It works out very well for the both of us.

Do you think the AFX ecu will work well in boosted applications?

Yes. Just pay attention to your timing.
