Yeah yeah, dumb question... but how can you safely disconnect the wastegate so that it doesn't shut and cause overboost? Should I wire it open somehow?

Just pull the cotter pin on the wastegate actuator exhaust housing?

Is it normally closed or open?

Should be normally open (in externals). Not sure about internals, but I would guess they have a similar design. Sorry.

The flapper should be closed if you want to boost. If you want no boost at all no matter how much throttle than pull out the cotter pin and pull the actuator arm off of the flapper "knob" Now the flapper will always be open and you can't boost.

Dumb question: Why do you not want to boost? Because you are breaking in I am hoping after all that work to your car Dan.

Supposedly boost is bad while you're breaking in an engine.

There's various reasons I've heard for this. The simplest is that the rings need to be pressed out into the cylinders evenly, and boost can upset where the rings sit on the piston.

I would like to push the engine hard right at the beginning of the break-in to seat the rings. I noticed on my first test drive that I was about to go into boost at only 15mph (S16G-owns-me). With the auto tranny, there's no way I'm going to be able to rev it evenly to 4k or 5k rpm without boost.

Believe me, I will very much definitely be boosting eventually. }>
