36946, thought you should know (DSM Link related)
Posted by babybeclipse, Jan-06-03 05:40 AM
Thanks for your help everyone. I have the folks at DSMLink considering making an ECU for 2gnt's.

Now I need your help again.

I need an ECU (with eprom) to send to DSMLink for them to get started.

Thanks again everyone who is helping to make this possible.

Error Proof Read Only Memory

Actually, it's Erasable Programable Read Only Memory.

Whats in an ECU is an EEPROM - Electronically Erasable Programable Read Only Memory.....

But anyway, whoever has an ECU should send it ... preferably an 99 like mine..... ;-)

What, only November 14th? I beat all you boys.. I didn't drive my car since March, 2002, now thats deprived.. not only are Michigan winters bad, but so are the summers :-D..

Anyways, they should make a 95 ECU too!!..

Do all of our ECU's have EPROM??? If not how do you know if it has it or not?

If I send it in do I get anything out of it(free DSM link)? I have access to a '95 ECU...Do you have the details of sending it in? I would much rather contact them myself and talk to the guy who is going to be working on it rather than doing it third party. I just don't want to loose a ECU and I would want to be able to call them and bug um about it rather than bug you w/ e-mails and posts.

Is this something they are sure about? Or are they going to play w/ my ECU for 6 months and then say “can’t be done”?

I am kind of skeptical because if Howell couldn’t do it why would they be able to? Just curious?

TIA
Brian

**Sorry for the long post**

I don't think it will take him anywere near as long as Howell did. These guys specialize in just ECU work.

Almost everything below is the emails we sent back and forth. I thought you guys might want a looksy.

Well, if you have an ECU lying around (with an EPROM) that you can do
without for a week or two, SURE! I'll take a dump of it and look it
over. It would certainly be easier to support a 2G NT model than a 1G
because of how physically different the 1G is. The 2G model would be
much closer to home as far as that's concerned.

This is the address he told me to send it to. I don't care who sends him an ECU just someone be a helping hand to your 2gnt community.

Thomas Dorris
11436 Gambrill Park Road
Frederick, MD 21702

As you can tell he was very helpful and quick to respond to my email. I know that if I had somesort of problem I would get help fast. It's kinda hard to find nice people in the performance market place these days. Remember what a prick Busher is? No one in my area buys from him cause of his BS attitude.

I just wanted to say Thank You to Thomas Dorris for being so helpful and giving the 2gnt community a chance. :thumbsup

Plus, adding a little compitition to Gary's (Howell Automotive) ECU.

I just got word from Tom that he only needs a picture of the inside of the ecu to find out if it's possible to make us an DSMLink.

You guys can email me the pics and I'll forward them or you can send to the address above. I'd kinda prefer you send it my way so he isn't flooded with pics in his inbox.

Thanks for your help everyone.

i can help you with that...i have both the 96' manual and automatic ECU's . unfortunately i won't be able to get the pics till the 16th. i also found out that the 97 ecu's work well on 96 harness so there wouldn't be a difference in ecu's. i haven't tested the 98-99 though.

Please let the guys who need to know the following:

1.) Ilive in Central PA, so its only a few hours to drive down to MD if need be.

2.) I have access to EPROM burners and readers at work... so I can even dump the EPROM and send it to him.....

3.) If number 2 would work, then people can always send their ECU to me and I can dump the data.... just a thought.

I think we need to push every chance we can to dig into out ECU. If we can unlock the dang thing and mess with the ignition maps, then we can make one giant leap forward in the 2GNT turbo game...... :-)

What are the stuff that you can change on the ECU programming anyways? Maybe boost recognition, upgrade to a higher capacity fuel injectors, higher rpm limit, What are they?
36962, RE: thought you should know (DSM Link related)
Posted by babybeclipse, Jan-13-03 05:27 AM
DarKReaLity- Any news on the ecu pics?

JUNJUN712- Check out www.dsmlink.com Everything you need to know is up there.

Just remember guys. It's not just a matter of, if they can make a profit on the product. It's also IF THEY CAN HACK INTO IT in the first place.

Thats why I need the pics. If he looks at the pics and says OK. Then we need to send the ECUs.

I can take a pic of my old 95 ecu if I can get all the gel stuff cleaned out of it.

things to do with an ecu, turn off engine codes, make the ecu not advance timing under map changes ,

bigger injector control, datalogging etc etc...

I have an extra 97 ecu laying around. I would be up to sending it to dsm link if they need one as long as I get it back. Also do you still need pictures? If so let me know and I will take some.
thanks

You can always email me pics so you don't have to send the ECU.

OR-

You can send it yourself to the address shown above ^^^^ (in my previous post). Just let me know so I can email him ahead of time.

If anything. label on the box or leave a letter in the box stating what year (auto/manual etc.) the ecu is.

Thanks for your help everyone. I'll let you know when I find anything out.
