I got the mapper that comes with the hrc kit and the wastegate is non adjustable. I have all of the gauges. Whats the differnt with the fuel reg. from the hrc kit and the s fmu. Is it needed. Is there anything I should know before I start on it. Thanks alot

yep that's pretty much everything, but i would suggest you get the S-FMU instead of the fuel pressure riser the hrc kit comes with, trust me you're gonna want to buy it later on. also you need a boost gauge as well. all i can say is goodluck and hope everything bolts up well, just be patient removing old parts with the new and don't overtighten bolts especially on the exhaust manifold section, i've had one pop on me and i was mad as hell. another thing is when you are about to install the oil sending line to the turbo, on my kit the threading on the oil pressure sensor connector was not correct, and i had to go to a machine shop to re-thread it correctly. i think the worst part of the install it's the exhaust manifold istalling it with the turbo and having to be hunched over for hours. ouch!and the intercooler piping were a little tough too, you'll see what i mean...anyway if you have questions while you're installing ti just let us know and we'll be here for you...goodluck!

Find out what Psi the wastegate is set to stock on the turbo. You don't want to hook it up and it's set for 10 psi or more. . .

the internal wastegate is set at stock with a non adjustable rod. The stock should be set at 6 - 8 psi no more than 10 I hope.

lol... you "hope"? probably want to find out what it's really set at, it would definately suck if it was set at 10+ psi for stock internals unless you want to be where i am right now, looking for options for a rebuild. it sucks. then again, most factory turbo systems are usually around 8-10 psi or so. i think 1g's (stock) are anywhere between 9 and 12 psi, but i'm not really sure. anyways, good luck with your custom setup, i'm done now.

Does it matter what the psi is set on the wastegate if u have a boost controller to set the boost. I'm all a little new on the turbo shit all I really trying is to put a setup on frist and than go from there just trying to get the car spooling right now ur feel me. thanks for the concern

A boost controller can only raise boost. The lowest you can go is what the WG is set at.

you could modify your wastegate activator to lower the pressure for a few pennies if you want to check that page to read how to do it http://www.denverspeed.com/wastegates.html

HOLY BAT GUANO.....someone stole my idea! And improved on it! J/K. I actually got my idea from www.homemadeturbo.com . One of the guys on there was pretty cool, he let me in on the mod.
Here is my setup. Although I would love to get it setup like that guy has his. As mine sits now my wastegate opens @ about 3lbs and only boosts to about 5. If I turn my arm to make it shorter it really spools up fast(and boosts to unwanted levels). Im going to now investigate on this idea with the spring on the backside.

>A boost controller can only raise boost. The lowest you can >go is what the WG is set at.
depending on the boost controller, (electronic,) you can run lesser boost than what the wastegates are set to open, the statement you made is true with the mbc and the homemade mbc's im pretty sure.....

So it doesnt matter wat the wg is set for if u got a mbc to set the boost.

35672, RE: about to install a custom made turbo kit Posted by RxR_Eclipse, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
No that is not true...you can never run less boost than what the wastegate is set to. take mine for instance. If I had just left it alone and not modified it..it would boost to like 12lbs(i believe). Even if I added a boost controler I could have NEVER gotten it to go lower than that base. Electric or Manual it does not matter.

ok got the wg tested today it didnt move till it was at 8 and max out at 14lbs. Is the stock 88 merkur turbo boost up to 14psi. The guy that test says it shouldnt boost that high on the car. He works at a turbo rebuild shop so he might be right. Wat do ur think.
