35153, Apexi Avc-R Boost Controller (Myth Or Fact?!)
Posted by widebodied, Nov-27-02 04:43 PM
i purchased the avcr controller a while back, i have yet to use it. siueelipse on dsmtuners.com did a hrc install this week, he claims that the avc-r is not compatible with the 2gnt because of voltage levels, or some kinda conflict with the ecu. if this unit is a stand-alone closed loop boost controller, how is this possible? im lost, this will definatly mess up my interior scoobie if this is true.

does anyone know of a 2gnt user of this device? does anyone know that this is true or b.s

thanks for the space

I personally don't have one, but I did consider it at one time. The AVC-R can be used on a 2GNT, just like the S-AFC. You just won't be able to use all the features, just like the S-AFC. It's supposed to be very versatile, especially if you have access to a dyno to have it tuned just right.

Greg ran a 12.8 with his. I'd say its working pretty damn good if hes running 12's.

As Dave said above I've been using the AVC-R for 2 years now and have yet to think about anything else for boost control. I Like it alot. I have ran anywhere from 4.5psi-27psi and it held at all these boost levels with no Creep or boost fall off. It holds ROCK steady. ;-)

Yes I am running the new AVC-R (Blue Screen). I do all the installs on my car myself. The 12.8 was run with 1.14 bar (saved on the AVC-R ;-)) which is 16.5psi. I have the 8.8:1 JE pistons and Crower rods. The head is bone stock. Let me know if ya need any help.

Oops. Yes the Slicks were on that night. I was able to pull a 1.9 - 60' on that run. I've been to the dyno a few times. To this day my max HP is only 340HP with 27psi. HP level is low because the stock head does not like to flow 27psi :(. At 15psi I made 283HP. At 16.5psi I'd guess the power level is around 300HP.

what turbo are you running? what do you boost daily? so you was boosting 27 psi's in when you ran that 12.8 or was you boost 16? what do you boost on the street? also, what kinda fuel system you running to handle that much boost?

sorry about getting off the topic felllas, well take it to the emails if you guys would like.

but thanks to greg for the input so far!

Well from what I remember from the turbonetics tag. I have the T3/T04E turbo. My boost depends on my mood and if there is a fast car next to me :P since I do have the AVC-R I can change the boost at the touch of a button. I have the car dyno tuned for 10,12,15, and 27psi on 116 octane race gas ;-) The 12.8 was run with 1.14 bar (saved on the AVC-R) which is 16.5psi. My current Fuel System consist's of the following: A super-AFC controlling Accell 500cc fuel injectors which are then fed threw two fuel pumps (Accell in-line, and a Walbro in-tank). The Fuel pressure is regulated threw a Vortech S-FMU with the pressure rise of; for every 1 pound of boost the fuel pressure rises 3 psi. My idel pressure is 20psi. I'm not happy with the AFC due to it's ability to alter of ignition timing during fuel adjustment. I will soon be going over to the 8 injector setup or a stand alone fuel system. I dont' mind questions it's just when people ask for rides in car that I hate :D hehehehe

With that high of boost, how come you aren't running a FPR with a lower ratio, for instance a 1:1? When you go to 8 injectors, are you going to stick with the SFMU?

For some reason I was thinking the SFMU limits us to about 16psi boost with 450-500ish injectors.
35169, RE: Apexi Avc-R Boost Controller (Myth Or Fact?!)

When I first built the car I was running the 3:1 regulator with 440's and that seen to work very well for street use, but I needed more fuel for 20+psi. So now I have 500's and I'm still using the 3:1. This is the lowest pressure rise that the S-FMU can go down to :(. I have not had a chance to buy a 1:1 reg "yet". When I was running 27psi of boost my fuel pressure was around 100-110psi under full boost. My AFC settings were still around -5% across the HI throttle setting!! Even with 27psi of boost!! I know my 500's and 3:1 is to high. I just wanted to make some decent power with what I had and it worked just find it's just my fuel pressure was to high for my comfort. When I go 8 injector I will use a 1:1 regulator and stock as my primary injectors and maybe some 265-300cc for the secondary injectors. This will probably be my setup for the next season. I will then enter into a stand alone system of some sort I'm sure. At the current time my car sit's in the garage with the tranny removed and no clutch (The stage 4 CM finally wore out). It's winter here so the timing was well. I now have all winter to re-vamp the fuel system and do some other goodies to the car :-). I'm very dissipointed I never got 27psi to the track. I was planing on taking the car to the track the day after the dyno. After the dyno I took the car to the streets so I could feel all the power I just made on the dyno. It felt VERY strong in 3rd gear (what traction I did get :D) so I took the car into 4th gear, that felt VERY strong as well. I was 100 miles from home so I decided I should not beat on the car anymore. I got the car home just fine and called it a night. The next day it's as if something happend overnight. I took one of my friends for a joy ride with my high boost. I car began to have power surges!! I was like WTF. I did it again and I could tell for sure it was the clutch slipping :'( My 11 second dreams were shadderd for the evening and in my case for the rest of the season.

I was using the smallest disk in the kit. You tell me where and how I can get it lower than 3:1 and I'll belive you.

i have the 1.5/2:1 kit, it says on you sfmu instructions! I guess someone doesent read instructions! hehehehe i forgot the part numbers, but you can call vortech and ask them for the parts you need to make it that rise rate. It is actually a 4:1 standard fmu ring and disk and an adapter for the SFMU. 2 part numbers. the 4:1 kit comes with a ring, a disk and a rubber diaphram. you can't use the diaphram because it is too small(because its made for the standard FMU) but you put the disk and ring into you SFMU but it wiggles around. it does not index into any of the machined channels. but then you place the adapter around the ring and it indexes and keeps everything in place. the disk is small almost as small as a silver dollar.

yah james is right. also my cousin has all the disk/rings in some box at his place ( he got the super-fmu used) so i saw it when we had to change the disk etc... so its been out there dude... just call vortex up and they will sorta help you out.. hehe
good luck dude...

check vortech's website and they have the instructions on pdf. it is on the last page in the gray box. it tells you the part numbers.
