I have a 1996 Eclipse GS with a HRC Stage II and I replaced the stock intank pump this weekend with the Walbro 255 lph High Pressure pump while keeping the Accel Inline Pump (critical to keep this pump otherwise the car will run lean under higher pressures).
The install went smoothly and took maybe two hours. I purchased the Walbro GSS342 pump (this is the pump for the 1996 Eclipse Turbo). Some fuel pump sending unit modifications had to be made. The Walbro pump is slightly longer than the stock pump. The fuel supply line on the sending unit had to be cut approximately a 1/4". The pump outlet is then connected to the sending unit supply line with 5/16 fuel injection hose and two clamps (one on the pump supply port and one on the sending unit supply line). Very easy install.
This walbro significantly reduces the amount of noise from the Accel inline pump. It is definitely worth the time and money to replace the stock pump. There is still a small wine but hardly noticeable. Night and day difference from my previous setup. When I had just the Accel pump, I could start my car which is parked on the road, stand in my garage, and hear the pump.
I hope this helps anyone who is debating on replacing the stock pump. I would definitely recommend it.

I have a bastard NER setup going on. I just got my walbro pump and was told that I would not need another pump. Im gonna run a sfmu along with it. Does this sound ok or do i have to buy another damn pump.

If you are using stock fuel injectors, definitely run both pumps (inline and intank). The Walbro by itself can not supply enough fuel at high fuel pressures (over 100 psi) and will cause you to run lean. I would not even trust the walbro by itself running a stage I kit. I always like to play it safe and would rather pay a few hundred bucks extra instead of a couple thousand for a rebuild.

Isn't it better to run lower fuel pressures, and bigger injectors? versus running smaller injectors and higher pressures?

You responded to my first post when I was deciding on whether to buy the Walbro or not and you said "Night and Day".....haha.....I quoted you in my update post.
Running bigger injectors will be much safer than running small injectors at higher boost levels. With the high pressures we are forcing more fuel through our stock injectors - not exactly what they were designed for.
From what I read here on the board (I may be wrong), you never want to be at 100% duty cycle for your fuel injectors because they become inconsistent/unreliable. I believe I have read that you only want to be at 85% duty cycle for injectors. Bigger injectors will allow you to pass more fuel to the engine per cycle at way lower fuel pressures.
I also believe that the biggest injectors our stock ECU can handle are 325 injectors.

well, yes you never want to run injectors at 100% duty cycle. this means that the injectors are open all the time. this would not be good. i was running 315 cc/min injectors with no problems before but now i have 440's and an afc. the higher flow rate allows you to supply more fuel at a lower fuel pressure and that in turn makes things more reliable and also makes the max HP you can attain, higher. now the only thing you have to check is if you are supplying too much fuel with the 2 pumps. i don't have that problem because i am running -6 AN steel braided fuel line to and from the tank. lates james

Here's my current fuel setup I am running:
Walbro 255 HP Vortech SFMU Accel Inline Pump Stock Injectors (for now)
When I was running the stock intank pump and the Accel inline, I had the fuel pressure set to 50 psi at idle.
After I installed the Walbro and had both pumps running, I reconnected my fuel pressure gauge to double check my idle settings. The fuel pressure was 8 psi higher at idle and had to be turned back down to 50 psi.
The duel pumps definitely flow more fuel but I am assuming I am safe since I was able to turn down the idle pressure back to where it should be at 50 psi. I took the car out for a test run and the A/F guage stays in the green so I know the car is getting plenty of fuel. The Air/Fuel Gauge had the same reading on it as before I replaced the intank pump (Right in the middle of the rich section both before and after - I have the blinky light Air/Fuel guage and would have to look up the value - I am asumming around .93 or so guessing the full rich is close to 1)
I was worried about the return line not being able to flow enough fuel back to the tank causing high line pressures but it doesn't seem to be the case. Maybe I should do some more testing with the fuel pressure guage attached under fuel boost conditions.
