34955, Is it just me...(I never go WOT) Posted by Semperboost, Nov-23-02 08:31 AM
I never go WOT at all..I never even go past 3/4 throttle. I baby my car. Maybe I've been tramatized when I blew my motor with NOS and now I'm more careful. Or it might be cuz if I do blow something I don't have the funds to get back on my feet. How many of you feel the same way?...I think if I had my car tuned in a controlled enviornment then I'd feel safer. I'd adjust the car for any fluctuations with a SAFC and feel a whole lot better flooring it and having the confidence of not blowing up. Is the S-AFC a safety net? Can it be used to correct problems that the car is already experiencing though boost? Or I was thinking of an EGT gauge..but I heard you can blow with normal A/f and EGT. I'm just scerd of tapping out the threads in the manifold. thanks

i beat on my car...go wot all the time, and have been since day one. over a year of boosting on a stock engine, never go easy on her, and still have perfect 200psi compression across the board (knock on wood)

I never go WOT either. But that's just because my clutch will slip ;) I used to beat on it pretty good. As for the AFC. I'd think you'd be safer going WOT then boosting in closed loop. That's where you'll get the most timing advance.

i never go WOT or even 3/4 like u said. alright every now and then 3/4. but other than that i baby the shit outta my car. im not turbo yet either. i got 30,000 miles and i wanna keep her in good shape. i suppose after i turbo, i will be even more careful about how i drive her too.

My Eclipse was too slow to not go WOT and ever do anything. I ran it up to 6000+ quite a bit too and never any problems, I took care of it but made sure it did some work for me too.

I use to baby my car. Now I drive it like I stole it. I've got all kinds of problems though smoke, oil coming out of the block some where battery's about dead due to my subs and an 8gauge wire connecting them to the battery. My RPMs are very low at idle below 500 so I guessed I should have kept on babying my car, and all this is with out my turbo kit. still waiting on it to get here.

I very rarely go WOT. I like to keep tread on my tires!

On the carpet behind my gas pedal there is a indention where the pedal has been hitting the floor so much.
If I wanted to go slow I would have a SUV.

I have a star stage II on a stock block and i beat the crap outta my car every single day, and havent had any problems. I dont know how you cant beat on your car, especially if your turbo, its just so much damn fun.

34968, RE: A few S-AFC questions Posted by Semperboost, Nov-24-02 01:06 PM
Well I guess I should be using my car to the fullest potential. I don't even go to boost during normal everyday driving, I try to avoid it and only boost for a split sec. Call me a hipocrit - but I need to use the force more often. Would a S-AFC help out even at low boost? What can the S-AFC monitor? THanks for all the input guys

i dont have a safc and have been running 8-10lbs on a stock enigne for over a year
get the fuel right to begin with and you wont need a safc. besides, it should only be used for fine-tuning anyways.

I've got that problem too!

Yeah... I never used to drive it hard AT ALL until I let friend drive again (first time he did it, turbo/downpipe BLEW APART  but that wasnt his fault)
I always shifted around 4grand... about where the turbo would have actually started doing something... i was basically shifting by ear.. gets loud? shift. heh.
Since then I tend to give more attention to the 4,000+ range than I did..hehe..DEFINITELY glad I did... liek a whole different car...
but im gonna baby it for like the next 6 months when it returns..

I never go WOT either. I did more before I blew my engine and now that Im getting bad gas mileage I dont drive that hard most of the time. I also need a clutch so once I get that and a new O2 sensor in the near future Ill probably push my car more especially since my compression look fine as of last night. -Dave

I'm still traumatized. I have rebuilt engine with less than 3k miles on it and will only go WOT for a split second or when I'm revving.
