There has been some confusion lately regarding what a Super 16g turbo is, in that what exhaust manifold can it mate to. In fact, the S-16g turbo is more of a Garrett turbo than you would think. In fact, it uses a Garrett 10cm exhaust side housing as its turbine. 4g63 guys use this turbo and mate it to a Turbonetics (Garrett) exhaust manifold to use with their applications instead of their Stock Mitsu manifolds that are mateable to standard 16g turbos. So feel free to mate your T3/t4 turbos to your HRC manifold all day long, or vice versa by mating your S16g turbos to your STAR manifolds.

Here's a post from one such Super 20g user (the S20g uses the same 10cm housing):

"I also just finished installing a used S20G with the Turbonetics high flow manifold. For those of you that did not know the HRC manifold is a Turbonetics manifold used for the T3/T4 setup. The 10cm housing is a Garrett housing which is why the manifold bolts right up to it without the neccessity of any of the spacer plates. The only strange thing I have noticed is that my EGT's are really low. I have an HKS EGT gauge and tapped the plate on the manifold just like Turbobob did but I think the probe is not reaching the exhaust flow like it was on the EVO manifold. Spoolup is no different that any other 20G (I know I had one on my car now sitting in the garage) but the top end flow is noticeable. Will have a better idea once I get it to the track." I missed this if people were asking. Jason is correct. :) It does not mean you can automatically just run out and bolt any turbo though. You still need to check for fitment issues. It is pretty cool though.

So, you're saying I should be able to bolt up a s16g to my exhaust housing (I have a star kit) and run it as long as it's cooled the same, and the DP bolts up. Right? If the DP doesn't bolt up, I should be able to order an HRC DP and bolt it up I think. I hadn't really thought about this avenue before. I'm tired of the lag of my t3/t4 and since I don't plan on running any more than 15psi or so, a s16g should be plenty I think. Please comment or correct me if I'm wrong here.

Honestly, I'd thought about it. The only down side (for me) is that I have the ball bearing and yours is not.

Well, why don't you guys just trade turbos, plus have Greg give a little extra cash on top? I know how both you guys are, and you would both be better off with eachothers turbos.....16G is better on the street and for lower boost(just like you said), and that T3/T4 will be better for Greg because it will be more efficient at his boost levels(20psi+) than his S16G. You guys should really try to work something out......

The exhaust housing is Mitsu, at least mine is. It has a small Mitsu logo on it. And don't Garrett’s use bolts to connect the center cartridge to the exhaust housing? Mitsu uses the clamp thing.

Didn't Bill Hahn himself come on this board and tell us all that it was not a garrett housing???

I'm too lazy to search for it right now... but I'm pretty sure he did......

I am 100% positive that the HRC super series turbos are "not" hybrid turbos. they just happen to have the same bolt pattern as the t3 turbine housing. HRC gets those turbos "brand new" direct from Mitsubishi heavy industries.
