First of all, whats your guys' opinions on either of these. which do you feel is better for a stock motor? I figure im gonna run 7 psi-ish till i rebuild, but just wanna know which turbo is "better"

also from a previous post, does anyone know if the flange on the T3/T4 is different from the 16g? TIA

yes the flanges are different.

Turbo wise, it is based on preference. I'm sure this topic has been beaten to death.

very much beaten to death...

ultimately, the t3/t4 will be capable of producing higher numbers.

the s16g spools a lot quicker.

if your never gonna venture past the 20psi mark or so, and just want a fast street car, the 16g may be the better choice.

if your looking to build a drag car, or highway racer, and want to run big boost, the t3/t4 is in another league.

doesnt mean you cant do both w/ either, all just personal preference, cant go wrong either way

Yeah, i figured the flanges were different. I honestly didnt know much about either turbo, its just that around here, all the shops are Anti-Mitsu turbos for some reason, and I kinda wanted to hear what you guys had to say.

Hey, at least he didn't ask, 'Which is better, HRC or Star?!?!?' Like stated earlier, it's all about preference. Since I'm auto, I need all the low end grunt I can get, so I picked the S16G. My friend who HAD a 96 GS, auto with a Star kit, I didn't really feel it start to pull until it passes 4K.

The Super 16g turbo uses the same exhaust flange as does the T3/t4 turbos.

i think that it can be, depending on the kit

hmm. that is a trick question ;). which 16G are you talking about, and which t3/t4 are you talking about ;). based on general used info, I would guess your default meaning is 16g (hahn racecraft super 16g) and t3/t4 (t3 stage 3 .68 a/r with to4E 46 trim internally gated). with that info in hand, I think you would be happier with the 16G. it does lower boost levels pretty good. BUT, if you throw in differnet combinations like a standard 16G with a 7 cm^2 housing, or a t3 stage 2 with a to4B S-3 compressor wheel and a .58 A/r (mroe or less) internally gated, that brings the game closer into what you want to do, and brings in an entire world more of useable power in your power band. however, you wouldn't have the top end power of a "LARGER" t3/t4 turbo or a "LARGER" 16g, you would have very fast spoolup, and you would reach your 7 psi goal MUCH earlier, and have that much more range in your powerband. don't sweat it too much 'though. if you get a turbo that is too big, that always gives you a future to work around, and for 7 psi, a t04E 46 is too big, and honestly, I think a super 16 is too big........unless you plan on running 15 or so psi in the near future.

Thanks for that info...always was wondering which T3/T4 to get since I planned on getting the star kit. I won't be pushing alot of boost when I go turbo so I am looking for the quicker spoolup.

yeah the star kits are very good , quality wise, perosonally i would not want a quick spoolin turbo front wheel drive, all you do is spin, til like 70mph, i know i had a big16g, if i could do it again i would of ran a t3/t4 setup, tractions alot easier, and it still spools fast, i believe the star kit has a new I/C too,

the only problem with havign a laggy turbo is that the tires will spin at a higher rpm instead of a lower rpm ;). if you make power, you will spin anyway. one of the curses of having a fwd car.
