34555, 100octane?
Posted by Collente, Nov-18-02 12:14 AM
Hey guys,
I am lucky enough to have access to 100octane at my local gas station. I was curious if I would need any ignition upgrades to run this safley with my turbo setup. I have Accell wires and bosh4+ plugs. Will I need a Crane or a MSD ignition? I wouldn't think so, I'm only running 5psi. but 100oc is quite a bit higher that 93.

the higher the better....we can run 116octane race gas on the stock engine....the 100 is gonna really help you out..you can push more boost with higher octane because it requires more to burn it, thus reducing the chances of detonation..

Thanks! I've heard about to much octane without ignition upgrades being bad, but I never actually heard a number to go with it.

I ran VP105 octane gas in my car many times before I put in my Crane, so I wouldn't worry about it..... :)

100 octane isn't gonna hurt your motor it will run much better though if u can afford, it u can run more boost and more compression on 100 octane then 92 or 93 thats for sure..

My friend is using half C-12 half 110, he goes through quite a few O2 sensors though.

dude don't waste your money. you'll spend what? 4 bucks a gallon with that crap. just get 93, save the extra money for an intercooler, etc. in my opinion that'd be the best way to go. when you have more done to the engine it may be useful to buy 100, but not with a stage 1. save for that intercooler dude. then boost 9psi safely all day long!

Its actually only about $2.30 a gallon. Which isn't that bad, considering my only other option is 91oc. I Live in utah and durring the winter to better improve smog, they put shit in the gas!(except "racing fuel"of course) which makes it like 75 octane ;)
Anyway, I am runnin a Rx7 SMIC and only 5psi.
Any other thoughts on that?

Check into using toulene aka laquer thinner available at any hardware store. Has an octane rating of 114. Toulene, or more accuratly 85% toulene, 15% racing gas, used to be the fuel of choice back in the days of the turbo F1 cars, running crazy levels of boost. I'll try to track down some more info on it for you later today...

Ok, here's a few links for you to check out...

man, your price for gas is a lot better than ours! we have 100 octane but it's 4 bucks a gallon. but still, i think i'd save for a bigger fmic then just boost a little more daily.
