Where's everybody been getting there EGT gauges for good prices? Summit has them for like $120 but I was hoping somebody'd know a good place to get them cheaper.

Also, how do you mount the EGT on the manifolds when you've got twin turbos? Because we've got this V8 with twins and I know there's a way of doing it without two EGT gauges. Thanks fellas.

Can't tell you where to get a good deal on an EGT. I paid $90 for the gauge and $90 for the thermocouple at carparts.com. It was cheaper than Jegs and Summit at the time.

If I was using 2 turbos on a V-engine, I would use two thermocouples and a dual EGT. I think they sell the dual EGT's for aircraft. You want the EGT right before the turbo, not in a crossover pipe down the line. You could also rig up a switch to 2 thermocouples and a single EGT gauge. You could just switch between the two thermocouples.

And you have a Cobra replica right? Did you build it from a kit or buy it pre-built. What company? Just curious because, I've got a co-worker with a couple Cobra replicas (building one to sell).

The Cobra is a replica from Lone Star in Dallas. We're building it from a kit, its still in the process. We've got the motor and transmission about ready to go in.

It's very high quality, powder coated frame, big brakes, nice suspension, if you need more details email me or drop me a personal message.

I bought mine a while back directly from Westach. However, I've seen they have recently raised their prices. However, one of their main distributors, Chief Aircraft, has not.

I recently obtained a replacement probe for $35 from then which includes another compression fitting to go into your manifold. The gauge was about $30-$40 if I remember corrrectly as well. That's pretty cheap and functional at the same time. They're not a pretty gauge, but their probes are known for being one of the best on the market. After all, they are used on airplanes.

Hey Jason, do you know if the Westach probes will workj with an Autometer gauge? I beleive the outputs from all Type K thermocouples is standard, as is the length of wire (measured resistance over a set length), but i wanted to make sure.. my AM probe is CRAP.

I've heard of Westach before, a buddy used the probes on an old 1g before he sold it, I think. Good info though, we don't particularly care what the gauge looks like but if what Dino says works I think we might do that.

Would you be averse to helping us out this summer once we have my friend's car apart? I know its not a 2gnt but we could really use the knowledge you've got with turbos and what not, we don't want to fudge up the project and have to have someone fix it for us. Summer's a long way away but with your help and guidance I know our project will be the quickest beast in League City. If it helps any, beer's on me :)

Hey Dino, Sorry I haven't gotten back sooner. I ASSUME it would work. I do have Jeff's old probe, but I've been holding that back waiting until I get some dough for a newer Autometer Ultralite for the talon. There's only two wires, and the same holds true for the Autometer, and is thusly why I assume each would work for one another.

I can't say for sure, but I know I've read that 4g63 guys have done so with using Westach probe instead of Autometer ones, when they used to be slower reacting. (I think they're good now, but in the past, they may have been a poorer product according to others)

if you still have that newer AM probe laying around that Jeff sent you and you aren't going to use it, can i take it off your hands?

Heh, I'm still rolling aroung with a working EGT gauge in my talon ever since the orginal probe went out. I'm actually waiting on Automoter to send me the proper fittings for it.

I would also use 2 EGT gauges, one for each bank. IMO, its much safer that way, just in case on bank runs lean, or different than the other. Just use 2 EGT probes, and 2 separate gauges. 120 bucks for one gauge is really pretty good. So for 240 bucks, its really cheap insurance for the motor, and a damn good tuning and monitoring tool. Its something you dont want to skimp on if your putting all this time and money into it already..
