34107, Spurting Noise..
Posted by KiN, Nov-08-02 02:57 PM
I know its hard to understand/describe noises across the net, but.. was wondering if mabye this is just some common thing. I have a stage 2 fmic hahn kit, running at around 5 psi ( becuase im auto trans.. ). Some times when in low boost, I'll hear a sputter noise come out of the engine area and the car doesnt really do any thing for that second, it feals like it wants to go but doesnt. Is this just "lag" or somthing else? The rest of the car is stock besides the kit and exauhst.

- Thanks

Well, it seems to happen every time I go to WOT.. could it be detenation? Im only at 5 psi...

If im pulling out of some where, and go WOT, or even just cruising and decide to floor it... it happens. I just got some bkr7e-11 plugs.. I dunno if that will help or not?

any help?

This isn't always the case but just something eles to check:
Pull your plugs and see if your loading them up.... You could be running 'er to rich, and it takes some air to actually get your car going..... Just something to look at.... Just remeber White on the plugs very bad runnin it too lean/hot, but too much black, your running it way to rich... It took some playing around with plug gap's and heat ranges to get that right, but that is all the fun in tuning..
Good luck,

-danny.

Could very well be detonation. It sounds like a bunch of bearings or BB's being shaken in a metal can or something. My first suspect is the fuel cut defensor. If its bad, it can cause the fuel injector duty cycly to be too low under boost, and lean out too much, causeing detonation.. If you have access to a voltmeter, do this. Turn the car on to the run positon, but not running. Get the voltmeter and measure the map sensor voltage accross it. It should be around 4.5 volts, give or take .1 or .2 volts, NO MORE. When my FCD went bad, i was running to lean at 8 psi, with over 120 psi of fuel pressure! If you get a voltage lower than 4.5 volts, disconnect the FCD from the map sensor, and remeasure the voltage. IF it goes back up to 4.5 volts, then thats your problem. Also, be SURE to check your fuel pressure under boost, to be sure thats where its supposed to be. EGT's and A/F numbers?? At 5 psi, stock injectors, you need around 80 psi of fuel pressure. Try those things out and see what you get..

It seems to of just been the stock plugs. One of them had some oil on it, the one next to the oil cap, Im guessing some just spilled out. It didnt really sound like bolts in a can, just sputtering. Almost like air sputtering out. I have a a/f gauge, and under wot its all in the rich and like 1-2 in the stoich.. No egt gauge..

It runs smooth now, so all is great. Thanks for the responses
