anyone got any info on BOV's such as advantages and disadvantages of each. i want to get the loudest one possible with my kit if wyatt can hook me up with it (the blitz supersound)
anyone heard one of these? are they all theyre up hyped to be as far as sound is concerned? how loud are BOVs in general compared to other engine noise?

The BOV sounds like your letting air out of a tire, it's pretty bad ass!! It's much louder than any engine noise, and when people hear it, it scares them cause they know what you have:-)

As I recall, there is no performance gain with a better BOV unless your pushing major psi or hp. But I do think that the SSBOV is the loudest, but I could be wrong. I know that it has different inserts to make it loud though.

There was just such a discussion over at DSMtalk and the vast majority agreed that the HKS super sequential was the loudest BOV, followed by the Apexi. Only two guys thought the Blitz was the loudest and it was disputed by many.
I dont exacly know how to describe how loud they are but when a modified turbo eclipse pulls up next to me at highway speeds and revs me I can clearly hear them.

I dunno about Blitz but I was behind this red 95-96 GSX today and his BOV was real loud. I caught up with him in the parking lot on my way to class and he said he had an Apexi. If you want loud i think thats the way to go.

I have the newer redesigned Blitz bov,it comes with 2 different outlet pieces for different sounds(quieter and louder)of course the piece that makes it louder is what i'm using now. I like the sound of the Blitz but my friend has heard the Apexi on a first gen eclipse and he said that bitch is hella loud. If I want to go through the hastle of changing the mounting flange on the intake pipe, i'd switch to the Apexi one.

I have the HKS SSBOV on mine, and it pretty loud, sounds weird, not your normal psssshhhhhhhhhh souund....

I have the blitz ssbov and it's real loud under ample boost.. but it's push pull and only blows off under boost.. so you almost cannot make it blow off when you're revving at idle. the loudest i've heard is the Apex'i.. it's adjustable tho.. then comes the type H from turbo XS.. that's real loud too. then the greddy type s.. it's more like a whistle. The blitz ssbov is more like a shhhhh sound than a whistle. But in my opinion.. the Apex'i has always been the loudest.

I got rid of the crappy HKS standard for an HKS race BOV. I must say...i think it works 100 times nicer..from what i can figure, the gobbling noise that my standard used to make was compressor surge. The same noise that my buddy's turbo miata makes without a BOV. I switched to the enormous race valve, and all i hear is one loud woooooosh... And i noticed spool up after shifts was a hell of a lot faster. I don't know if any of this is truly correct or not, but the monstrous BOV under the hood sure looks better than the dinky standard one.

I have the greddy type S and if you want a loud whistle than this is the blow off valve for you it whistles and does not have that ppsssssssshh sound

I have the HKS SQV on my stealth, and I will have the Greddy type S on the Avenger. The SQV sounds good on the stealth, but it sounds wierd on a 2gnt or any other 4 cyl car for that matter (they are popular around here, and there is also a guy with a hahn stage 2 that had the hks bov). it has a small valve for what it is worth, but my stealth doesn't realy flow that much anyway.

for a stage one kit would having a standard HKS BOV be good enough? You guys are mostly talking about sound and not performance, but does your car perform better (stage 1 in this situation) if you get a bigger BOV? I just ordered a Star Stage 1 from Wyatt.

honestly...i look at things more for the performance, and as where the standard HKS will do okay, but i don't think it lets off enough boost, and you get compressor surge. Thats why i went with the Race BOV by HKS. It works as well as the Greddy Type S, but its a good bit cheaper since it ain't polished or anything. This thing flows like a monster, but it ain't all that loud.

TommyBoy, FYI- The Greddy WILL make the swoosh sound if you adjust the screw properly.

I've heard em all and I like the sound of the Blitz. We put one on Murix's car and it sounds great. It fits the HRC kit with no mods.
