I'm going to go one way or another soon and my budget is leaning twards the rebuild kit or the pre built 2.0 block. But my heart is saying 2.2L so I have to make these guy's agree. What do you all think?

Off boost (and at non-boosted compressions like stock or higher), i think the extra displacement could offer an increase of 15-20HP. Lowered compression and boosted, you'll see a great increase in torque, especially low down when the turbo isn't spooled. You'll be able to get it off the line quicker, as well as spool any turbo that is on the car that much faster due to the increased displacement. It's a win/win situation no matter how you look at it.

Ahhhh... I think I found my after christmas gift... I wanna get one of these after christmas but is there anyone driving these engines as a daily driver? How much HP would I get out of this with a hahn stage 2 kit with smic?

a 2.4 swap is much cheaper and u get twice the gain of the 2.0-2.2 =)

do a search here on 2gnt to grab a little info then drop by neons.org for the hardcore 2.4 info

internals can be had for as low as 450$ or so for pistons and rods on the 2.4 if u know where to look

Yeah, but this way you don't have to fabricate accessory brackets to keep AC and PS, nor do you have to build centermembers or oilpans, or worry about being able to use a stock radiator hose because the 2.4L waterpipe is too short and the 2.0L pipe won't fit..

This is much quicker, easier, and as far as labor goes, cheaper.

where is the 2.2L in the howell site. i looked for it around their site for the price and no luck.

Not only that but I have been told the downpipe and all of that needs to be fabricated or extended. Plus the pistons/rods that you get that cheaply won't support my future goals. My internals have to be forged. I won't be able to fully acess my situation until next weekend, so hopefully by then the1bill will have all the skinny on the 2.4L swap for our cars. It's a whole different ball game on a 2gnt than a neon.

Plus I'm no engineer... I can jerry rig but not fabricate. Corbin is closer to me now, but I don't think he wants to go on another quest for the holy grail with me.

Yeah...now that I'm actually working I can't stay up 'till 3 AM eating taco bell and wrenching on cars for days in a row. I think the 2.2 will get you to your goals and will be far easier to complete. Either way, you know I'll come down to help on weekends. I wanna see how it all comes together before I drop one in my car.

So exactly how do you get 2.2 liters again? Bigger block, bored cylinders, longer stroke, etc...?

prolly a smigen from the bigger bore.... but it is a stroker kit.. so the up and down stroke is i think 1/4" more... but added w/ diff comp, and other goodies ;-)

since the 2.4 block is 1/2" higher,

me and the1bill are working hand in hand on teh prodject hes ahead of me cause i ran short on funds and stuff, after we found all the problems with the swap and i sat back and pondered them it really isn't that hard if u cut and drill some flat steel for the brackets send a downpipe or header to the muffler shop to be lengthened and fix the right side motor mount or move it up an inch its pretty simple the oil pan needs some dremol work to fit properly and the rest is basically bolt on stuff

if u want specifics i can dig up where i posted every single problem for people i have a couple people wants to have the brackets cncd to make it easier possibly throw together a kit like the neons got , the 2.2 internals holdup to around 500hp with Cast pistons that pretty good in my opinion, granted im going with forged weiscos and the t2(2.2 old skool rods) for my prodject because it will have nitrius and boost so they need to be forged,

the cam angle senor on the 2.4 needs to be rotated 180* slightly more mfuel with the help of a afc or just bigger injectors ,

might be some minor things i forgot long day at work (disount tire its snow season =)

Alright, here's the skinny on the 2.4... I hate it. If I never hafta make another plate or extend another downward portion of a front exhaust pipe, I can die a happy man. I think, though, when this is finished, it will be a beast NA, and will be a beast when I toss a turbo'd one in. I also think that once there is a reputable writeup done, it won't be that bad. There will be enough information poking it's head onto the web soon enough that will allow you to prep the 2.4L block and get it completely ready outside of the car. That way, when you are ready to go, you just remove your motor, swap heads over (with new hardware, yeah, that was another snag, gotta use 2.4L corner head bolts, the 2.0 bolts are too short) and swap over a couple of things. This swap doesn't need to be as difficult as it has come across mainly because a lot of information will surface soon enough. Once I am done, you will get the full scoop.
