So lately my car's been acting up - Everytime I try to start it, it wants to turn over, but it sputters. I have to unplug the ECU (motor fuse) to get it to turn over. Then it'll stay rich for a minute or two. So then I try disconnected the fuel pump and starting it up -it starts up then dies. Then restart and it's good to go. So I guess I'm getting too much fuel during startup. What could be the problem of this? My car runs fine even at idle the A/F sweeps, but everytime I start it back up it doesn't wanna go. Help please?

I don't have the answer to your problem, but I got the same delimna sometimes. When I start her in the morning, for some reason, I run extremely rich that it sounds like the motor is drowning in so much fuel. It sputters then let loose a small cloud of black smoke in the back. I'm not sure if this is what I hear, but I can hear all that extra fuel going through the fuel rail really loud. I pop the hood and my fuel pressure gauge was sitting at around 50 psi, weird huh. After a few minutes of warm up time she goes back to normal, no more black smoke comes out, and I can't hear that 'fuel noise' anymore. Good luck though.........thr only positive thing I can see of this is that the car doesn't have to warm up for quite as long.

What's your base fuel pressure set at? If it's too high, it might contribute to a richer fuel system at idle. Other than that, I'm not sure what else would cause a rich startup?

Maybe try putting in a switch to the fuel pump. Turn off the pump when starting the engine and as soon as it starts flip it back on.
Does that make since?

Just a thought.
When your temp sensor goes bad your ECU will go to a default temp setting (something like 70 degrees). thats fine for when you start cold, but if you are warmed up, it is WAY too rich. the car won't start.
It's easy to check. just unplug your sensor and see if it makes a difference. if it doesn't, it's probably the sensor.

Also. If your cooling fan comes on, then this probably won't help. It wont come on at all if the sensor is crapped.

or it may be the most simple thing like your injectors are leaking and not closing all the way.

I's not the engine temp sensor cuz my fans kick on. I can't see any leaks under the car or near the injectors during idle, but I smell fuel everytime I boost. I'm still working on it. It does start up fine in the morning but in the afternoon or after a run it takes awhile of cranking to get her back up
