3281, Question on INTERNALS ??
Posted by E_ME_2, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
Im currently upgrading the internals in my block. JE pistons, Crower Rods...rings...etc..
So Im wondering what am I going to need to put this back together ?
Do I need a new oil pump ?
Which gasket set do I need ? if I need one ? Top ? Bottom ?
Do I have to have the head machined ?
Is there any difference between a 96 block and a 2000 block (mines a 2000) ??
What can I expect to gain out of this upgrade ?
So far Ive spent close to 3000$ is it worth it ?

Cant hurt to have a new one. Cheap price of insurance considering you'll be rebuilding again if the old one fails.

All of them

Yes you have to resurface the head just to make sure its flat so you wont have any head gasket sealing problems. No more than .010" will sufice if you dont want to have any compression issues.

If there is it could only be for the better. There not going to change anything significant, if at all for a block that no current cars use. If its the right block there should be no compatibility issues. Any reason you got a new block vs recycled?

Nothing except longevity under forced induction/nitrous

Only if a) you needed a rebuild b) you are planning on more power than the stock block can take reliably.

I could be wrong, but the last year of the 420A motor in the Eclipse was '99, not 2000... Could you have meant '99? If you did then, there is no difference between the 2.

Yes 99 was the last year but its possible for chrysler to still be making them. For example Mopar sells new performance short blocks for last genration neons. They didn't even come out until after the 2000s were already released so they technically could be called 2001 short blocks even though they fit 95-99'

who knows. Avengers and Sebrings were still sold in 2000 but I'm not sure if the I4 was still being sold.
