well after ive been through hell and back again with my car, im ready to put my turbo on. i only have a few questions...
I have a 97' RS

1. Step 2 is replacing the fuel pump. Do i have to follow the instructions that come with the fuel pump itself? or is there an easier way to do, cuz ill have to wait a little longer so i dont have a full tank.

2. The oil pressure switch..."see diagram" MY ASS...anything i should know, just like a tip for doing it, like playing with the tape?

3. ALSO, can anyone give me any more detailed info on dealing with the oil pan, primarily where to drill, what bits, etc etc.

4. Please tell me how I should use the wastegate safely, like how to adjust, etc etc.

I think those are the only problems i have, the rest should be a breeze =-) I will have a mechanic helping me, but i wanted to get as much info as i could on my own.

Replacing fuel pump:
I wouldn't worry about having an empty tank, just as long as you didn't just fill it up.
I have found a quick the easy way of taking the fuel pump out is just using a pair of vise grips and a (17mm?) wrench.

Oil sensor socket:
Its on the back of the engine block. You will see two sensors. on the passenger side is the knock sensor, on the drivers side (next to tranny) is the oil sensor socket. It is a 1-1/16 socket but you need a DEEP socket for it. I would just buy an oil sensor socket and be done with it. (3.99 any parts store)
Make sure the oil line is pointing up when you are done. The easisest route for the turbo oil feed line is up and over the block.


Oil Pan:
This should easier that you think. There is not a lot of flat area on the front of the oil pan so you are limited to where you can put it anyway. I would put it higher up on the oil pan but make sure you have plenty of room to tighten the bolts.
As far as drilling size, just find a size so you can get the bolts through the pan. Get a file and take off any burs that are on the holes and clean it up really good.

BEfore you drill a hole in your oil pan, make sure the down pipe clears the hard oil return line!

If you can't release the fuel pump from the top you can check out the walbro VFAQ instructions and it'll tell you what to do.
