32466, anyone use WISECO pistons??? forged, 8.5:1 CR

I was looking at raceeng.com. They have a set of forged pistons made by Wiseco that run $369 SET. This even includes a set of rings as well as the wrist pins. They are standard bore and have a compression ratio of 8.5:1. What do you guys think about the compression ratio??? Most people run the JE's and use 8.8:1 so I don't think that the .3 difference in compression would matter very much. 2G turbo cars have 8.5:1 stock I believe and they seem to have good drivability off of boost. I mean I don't have tons of money, so I'm thinking this is a pretty good option for me. Doesn't Tommyboy have Wisecos? Hmm, well if anyone's heard anything, could you please let me know. I'm pretty anxious to start collecting more parts, my new block is getting lonely by itself :'( Thanks to all that provide me with some useful info

Ill be using Wiseco 10.5:1 pistons in my new block. they are VERY good quality pistons. beside a JE piston, they look just as if not more beefy and dont "piston slap" anywhere near as bad. Race Engineering is where we get all our internals from too, very good people and service.

I too was maybe going with these pistons. So 369 for 4 pistons, wrist pins, and rings? Thats a damn good price. I too was going to just get stock size bore pistons, and just hone the cylinders, but I have looked into that, and everyone i have talked to recomends to bore out the cylinders to the next oversize, to make sure the cylinder is perfectly round. So do they make .020 oversize pistons for our motors? That would be sweeettt..

I was initially planning on boring .020 also, but my new block is like new. It's already been honed. My machinist friend said that it is basically throwing money away for nothing(in the case of my block). So I'm just going to go w/ stock 87.5mm bore. It says on the site that the price includes the rings, but I'm going to call and make sure. I think I'll be ordering them this weekend. I'll let you know what's going on with them Matt since you seem to be interested, too. The web site it raceeng.com BTW.

I have them. I honestly can't tell a difference off boost between them and my stock pistons. I'm sure there's a little but not even noticeable, to me at least.

Yeah, I rode in Matt_95tgs's car with the 8.8 JE's, and his car pulls so much harder under full vac to 0 hg's than my car ever did. He doenst have the 8 injector setup finished yet, so no boost. We were driving around, and i was like, woh man, you better be carefull boosting a few psi like that without your fuel setup done. He was like, nah, that was only 0 hg's. Hehe, wierd.. You wont really notice a difference in lower compression, not 1 point anyway... Yeah, I am def very interested in that piston package..esp if they make .020 oversize ones...

What's the item number on their website on those pistons?

Here are the item #s.
WI-I541P875 NEON R/D PISTON:87.5mm/8.5:1
WI-I541P88 NEON R/D PISTON:88mm/8.3:1
Matt, they do make them in oversize at 88mm, but the CR is even a little lower at 8.3:1. Maybe they have more that aren't listed.

Ok, i called em up, and they do have the WISECO pistons, but like you said, only in 8.3:1 compression. If the head is milled just slighly, it can be back up to 8.5:1. Total cost for Pistons, rings, and Eagle rods, pistons in the .020 oversize, is 764.25 Not bad at all. I just may go this route. The guy there says that you should not push 24 psi on the eagle rods either, since they are billet, not forged. Also, he says that the JE pistons are almost the same thing as the WISECO ones, they are made and forged by the same company, just WISECO is a better price..

I got the weisco 8.5:1 I am really happy with them, standard size. I will tell you even after 120,000 miles on my block the machinist said I can still use standard sized pistons. our blocks are pretty damm strong and all you should need is a good hone. when I blew my engines in the past I didn't even pull the block out, All i did was pull the piston out honed the cylinder while the block was still in the car and put a new pistons in never had a problem. just get a hone at autozone which you can rent as a ,rent a tool. so going the route as in using standard size pistons is easy you don't even have to pull the block.

What is a hone and how do you use it?

I called raceeng today too. Here it goes.

If you buy the Raceeng brand (made by wiseco) they are 8.5:1cr The pistons are $369 + $75 for rings. If you go ahead and buy Eagle rods at the same time, the rods are only $339 a set.

I can get factory Mopar bearings from work. (Murix uses stock bearings on his car). The cost is very cheap. Rod bearings were $4.11 each and if I can recall corredtly the mains were only $13.00.

I can get factory engine parts for dealer cost at work. PM me if you guys want more info.

I was wondering that, the rods from them dont come with the bearings right? Let me get this straight, you can buy their brand of pistons at 8.5 CR, and are really made by WISECO? Hmmm..the dude never mentioned that to me...

>What is a hone and how do you use it?

A Hone is usually a 3 prong device that can hook up to a drill. On each prong there are long stones, kinda looks like Kit-Kat candy bar pieces, hehe. This hone is used to properly finish the cylinder walls for correct ring break-in. The finish needs to be near perfect, and also needs a 40 degree cross hatch in the walls for proper oiling and seating of the new piston rings. On the other hand, cylinder Boring is when you actually take off much more metal from the cylinder walls to make them oversize. You then finish that with a hone. Honing takes off very very little metal, just enough to get the crosshatch back into the walls.

The guy there says that you should not push 24 psi on
>the eagle rods either, since they are billet, not forged.

Crower rods are made from a solid piece of billet as well. Dont buy that theory at all. Besides pity a rod that cant take 24psi with 8.3:1 compression. I think he's wrong. That would also suggest stock 4G63 rods are stronger than eagle replacement rods (which they aren't). There are several 4G63's running eagle rods way beyond 24psi (hell they run stock rods that high). Different engine but you get the drift. Rods are more stressed by high RPMs than brute hp as well. 24psi with a 7000rpm redline is no more taxing on a rod then a 225hp NA engine running 9000rpms.

>Also, he says that the JE pistons are almost the same thing
>as the WISECO ones, they are made and forged by the same
>company, just WISECO is a better price..

Bullshit. JE forges and manufacuters their own pistons. Wiseco manufactures and forges their own pistons. Made by the same company my ass, neither of these companies are contracting pistons from anyone else. what sense would that make, thats all JE and Wiseco manufacture. One visit to each co website is all it takes to verify that.

Wiseco pistons slap every bit as much as JE. Thats all dependent on the piston to bore piston you chose to run and the preciseness of your boring the block if bored. Those who remember Ray, he had Wiseco pistons and he said they slapped just like mine do when cold. I've heard a few people say Wyatts JE pistons didn't slap noticeably at all. I do know JE has some of the tightess recommended piston to bore specs for forged pistons (without a high silicon content) which would facilitate reduced piston slap.

And last but no least, Race eng are the same people who told me they wouldn't be carrying any crower cams for the 420A because the engine was so unreliable they wont bother. I guess they sing a different tune about the 420A now that they see money can be made off it (not to mention the 11 sec neon in there backyard).

Once again, Stan to the rescue ;) Forged piston noise will be a big concern for me, as i will most likely be getting that J&S safeguard. If the piston slap is too excessive, it may confuse the knock sensor, and reek havok with the ignition timing. The only downfall of the J&S.. :( What to do...what to do...

difference is howells comes with the bearings, some gaskets, oil pump ...

I am a little late but just wanted to say Wiseco rules. They are very big in the town I just moved from and sponser a couple local cars and do some of there testing at a local shop. From what I was told they are part of holley and a few others are together. Great customer support also. Just wanted to add my 2 cents.
