Entering the entrance ramp on a highway, I was hovering around 2-3 psi, when I heard a small pop and felt a clunk in the engine bay. My boost dropped to like 5-10 vac., and the car was extremely sluggish to accelerate. I can barely make it pass 50 when I was almost at WOT, there was also a slight hissing sound that did not sound like the wastegate. I thought to myself, ok must be one of the signal vac. hoses, so I avoided getting at WOT while barely doing 55 in a highway. I exited, came to a light, and to my amazement, my vac. was normal (15-18) at idle. So I was stump, I cruised toward home while avoiding WOT. Got home, open the trunk, and my heart literally stopped. My blow off valve literally 'blew' off. The BOV was no where to be found, it was just the flange that was sticking there and the hose that connects to the breather valve. So I scrambled for the flashlight in a feeble attempt to look for it outside (dark), searched for about a mile away from home retracing my drive route...............could not find it.........shit!!!! As I got back to my car, for some unkown reason, I had to shine my light near the radiator fan housing and............BAAAMMM........right there. It was sandwiched between my filter and radiator fan housing. Hooked it back up EXTREMELY tight, test drove it, and it's fine. The car seems to pick up much faster, I guess I had some type of minor boost leak all along. Whew...........thanks for reading!!!!

Man, at least you found it. Would have sucked to have to buy a new one and wait for it to arrive all thw hile driving without boost.

I've blown mine off twice before. Luckily the vaccum hose on top of mine held it in my engine bay both times.....funny that it happened to someone else! Mine blew off under full boost and it sounded like a shotgun fired inside my engine bay!

I guess that's what that small 'pop' was for, at a measly 2-3 psi. Man, I can't imagine the sound at your boost levels. Mine was like a small pop followed by a dip in the boost gauge down to vac. My car was struggling to make it pass 50.

Oh yeah, I also found it extremely hard to believe that the BOV was sandwiched between the filter and fan housing, and did not fall off on the interstate. I mean, it could've fallen off anytime due to road vibes, pushed off by the air circling in the engine bay, or hit my fan damaging both of them. I was EXTREMELY lucky!!!!!! I mean, it was just sitting there with nothing to hold it, not even the vac. hose that was attached to it.

Never had a problem with the BOV, but a few weeks ago I had the scare of my life.

I was taking the car our to stretch her legs and gave a friend a ride to show him how it was. I get going along and hit 9psi and I'm in 3rd on a hard pull. Next thing I know I hear this LOUD "PIIIIING" and a clacking like something running through the engine, then it stops. I wait a few seconds after jumping off the throttle and I give it a little pedal and it feels fine...but there was a LOUD whooshing sound. Sort of like a boost leak or the wastegate dumping, but this I could feel on the pedal. So I take the car home and look it over...no crack, no leaks on the pipes, compression is fine.
3 days later I am cleaning up around the turbo and I notice the brass 1/8 plug on the compressor outlet I put in is gone? Apparently I didn't tighten it enough (did it by hand and forgot) and boost pressure got so high it shot the plug and the last thread on the housing out. The ping was the sound of the plug smacking the frame of the car and the clacking was it getting run down the side of my engine before falling out. Boost was leaking out of that little hole so fast and hard and hitting the frame, you could feel it on the pedal and the car sounded like a jet at 5psi LOL

Lesson learned...

when i had the stage 2 bov way back when, mine popped up too and dented the fugging hood, just enough to piss you off...
